I noticed something last night while flying, if I looked out the left window in the DC6, moving from straight ahead view "slowly"and I emphasize slowly, and there trees on the side of a hill, with shadows on part of the hill side, the shadow slowly fills in like a slow moving wave. Look back ahead and repeat, and the same thing happens. So instead of the shadow being there on the tree field, each time you turn to look at the field, the trees are there, the shadow is not for a second, and then iit slowly appears.  Never saw that pre SU5.

The default tools or the free or cheap ones barely works. The best one on the market, which is InstaLOD, is quite expensive, since its licensing ( several thousands $ per year ) is tailored for developers creating whole games from scratch, not really developers of add-ons for an existing game. 

But the results are another level, I used to have a license when they offered a 1-year Free evaluation, and it was very good, but we decided it was too expensive for what it does, since it still required manual work ( if it was really automatic, it might have been worth it )

Thanks for your input virtuali. Yah, there are tools in Unity and UE 5, I know you can export in gltf with unity but not sure about ue 5. I may try to just use Unity or UE 5 to do it, I don't know. I can always go back and run a script on the gltf file to conform to proper MSFS object.

Although the Vitus's plugin cannot currently export multiples LODs, there is another addon for Blender:

You are absolutely right on this.

It is a developer's/publisher's choice on whether to utilize a single build, used for PC and Console, or whether to maintain separate builds.  Clearly, there are advantages in terms of updates when a single build policy is adopted.  We would wait longer for updates if Asobo needed to apply them to two different final builds. The majority of devs/publishers seem to go with the single build policy (eg. MSFS, Train Sim World 2 [which has exactly the same complaints about the PC version being dumbed down for console!]), but there are titles that maintain separate builds.  That is entirely a policy decision, rather than any technical constraint or factor.

well, yes their claim would be accurate.  THEN they will need to set the sliders back to the left a bit. 

I paid a lot of money for my hardware to get the best visuals I can get out of this sim.  How should I feel now that the visuals have been reduced to appease people that just want more fps and dont know how to change the settings to reflect what their machine is capable of running smoothly?

asobo has said they will implement over ultra settings for pc, you need to be patient.

it is what it is, i cannot change that.

and yes they really should have thought of that before the update..but i guess ms has its deadlines.

for me i find the update really good, cna fly around lax now without stuuters, no popups, i gladly take a lil vis donwgrade for this.

This is a bad take. For progress to happen, you sometimes have to break old things. I hope they continue evolving the sim and not worry about every single person complaining how the old way is no longer there. I suggest you evolve with the times.

It's a resource and marketplace decision even more. This isn't a big enough market to sustain two distinct builds for.

Seems simple enough to do this with one build.  Surely the app can be made to discern if it's being run in Win 10 or Xbox.  Since this is so, then there can be a different set of values in a lookup table for the various effects generated for each slider position, easy peasy case improved.

It's already done that way, they removed LOD culling for custom building prior to release as you probably read, so they already had to add some separate logic between the two versions. I'm sure there is other separate logic as well. They can just branch it pretty simply anyhow and only maintain changed files from the root branch and destination, which isn't that big of a deal. Though it can become dicey without a Github expert or whatever version control they are using, but I guarantee you on a team that size they have multiple experts like that.

Anyhow, it's just odd design decisions. 

And just as a note to others: No they didn't remove all LOD modifications, they just removed that one instance, they still heavily changed the way the renderer handles the LODs.

No, they looked at the PC specs for their users and the performance people were getting and decided to give better performance to both PC users with mid tier systems and of course Xbox users. 

I have a monster of s system with a 3090, 5900X and 64GB RAM and even have benefited with the smoothness in SU5. No question about that. The smoothness makes the experience so much better.
