July 29, 20214 yr I too noticed the hard to read cockpit. I do use VR and a Reverb G2, but at the same setting everything was harder to read unless you zoomed in. I bumped up my resolution to 100% and now I can read things, but performance is back to where it was originally. So I lost any gains I may have had. So this patch was a wash for me.
July 29, 20214 yr Are Asobo suspending the improvements of the early beta release indefinitely, or are they giving the modders and 3PD a set time to get things in order? Think they made the right decision, a whole load of the freeware mods breaking this week would not have been a good idea. Forums go Boom. Would be a shame to miss out on what the improvements could potentially offer though. Edit: Seen in the JULY 29TH, 2021 DEVELOPMENT UPDATE that they use the phrase: 'We have temporarily reverted the LOD selection mechanism to its previous state on PC' So shouldn't be too long before we start seeing those big improvements utilised. At the last minute they Reverted back to the old method of culling objects without a defined level of detail set. The new method (on the Xbox build & early beta) culls any object without a LOD set (basically a set of progressively lower res versions of an onbject) and doesn’t draw it all of its smaller than 5% of the screen size (eg the size of the popping taxiway signs in that leaked takeoff video). The old version (which they reverted back to) culled at 0.5% What thread? Did they give that explanation officially? Edit: I just saw it on today's development update, on the SDK section. I think that is what is happening. A lot of game developers do this to accommodate the inferior consoles. I've seen the ports from consoles(and actually done on a PC system for that matter) to PC games and it is awful. However, MSFS originally a PC developed PC sim is being downgraded for consoles which is very rare.

Too bad we can't buy a 3000 series without a 2-300% markup. I'd really like to find a 3080Ti or 3090 or even a 6900XT for a decent price somewhere. I'd say PC gaming qualifies as close to mass market these days and the PC figures thrown around for MSFS aren't piffling, but obviously Xbox is rather more mass market. However an awful lot of those PC gamers won't be on fire breathing machines so many will be pleased with any tweak that ups their performance even if it narks the hot rod owners. I'll guess it's more about the game pass for them than sales. It's so different it may tempt people to sign up for it who otherwise wouldn't have.

Are these problems evident using the existing SDK (0.13) in SU5 dev mode when working with scenery? The reason I ask is that today’s development update seems to imply that the release of a new SDK version 0.14 is imminent- which (possibly) might address at least some of the problems you have highlighted. If you are already working with a newer SDK not yet publicly released, then that is more worrisome. July 30, 20214 yr I've just been fiddling with LOD stuff. I thought I could cheat and use the same model at each level. I can but it adds the model again to the modellib which means a 5x increase in its size. Some are way too big already so if the LOD thing does happen for PC I'll likely kill off any mod that's model heavy. It would be several weeks of work. Servicing someone else's programming change is not a worthwhile use of my remaining time on earth. I wonder how many payware developers will wash their hands of their products too. This might be one change that doesn't happen.
