Hotfix for CTDs and major issues coming soon

Featured Replies

When CTDs are happening with my system, almost everytime it seems to be caused by this module:
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\clr.dll

Absolute class!  😀  Do you really look like David Niven?

Sadly no. More like a pound-shop Phil Mitchell, if that means anything to you. Much to my chagrin…

We are actively working on making this sim the best experience possible, and look forward to seeing videos, comments, and more from you about this release.

I wonder how much beta testing this hotfix has gone through in the day or two they have had before loading it onto our sim?

This is not a hotfix, I am guessing, this is more a tested variant they didn't eventually release for some "Xbox reasons"

despite your vulgar reply…

Only because it has happened previously.  Overall, I am extremely positive for the sim, past and present.  However, this update was a real gut punch to those who already had the sim working properly.

And what is weird about this, is that so many have complained about the lack of beta testing and the train wreck some of the previous updates have caused, that I figured this one would be much smoother than the others have been. Wow, was I wrong. My sim went from a smooth running, good FPS, sim to a beta version with multiple issues in one day.

Ooooh it's a conspiracy 😱 Or perhaps not. Asobo had a deadline to meet for Xbox and because so much happens in the cloud, the PC version has to be in sync, so I guess SU5 was pushed a little prematurely. Like the original release to be honest, it was about 2 months prior to actually being ready.

Sometimes I wish that users who comment like you would be excluded from any MSFS updates ... because you are happy with the product anyway..

Big difference between understanding that software can have issues, and throwing a tantrum like a 2 year old.

In the real world, if a $100 product is subpar and not working well, I’d probably stop using it and move on.

It didn’t start this update and won’t end with this update. That’s why the target market is teens and 20-somethings on XBOX.

Looking forward to future updates, although honestly my experience now is ok (not perfect but OK).

I wonder how many people are bothered about pilots not being displayed in external view at the Isafjordur Landing challenge. On the other hand, I can tell you how many people are bothered with that white toolbar thingy being displayed all the time on the top of the screen though - a lot! Priorities.

I’m finding that I get a pretty consistent CTD if I start a second flight from the main menu without exiting the sim first.  Seems repeatable in trying to do the exact same flight twice in a row.  Hopefully the hotfix takes care of it in any event.

Fortunately a lot of the world has moved on from these blinkered views. I am 54 and have both a Series X and a PS5. I use them pretty much exclusively for simming and did so with their predecessors too. For 20 years I invested in the lasted PC tech but I came to realise that I was always chasing performance that was a little out of reach and it was costing a lot to do it. I bought a PS4 and it was a revelation, swiftly followed by an XBOX. I was primarily playing Forza on the XBOX and GT Sport on the PS4. Each console was cheaper than a single graphics card and not even a bleeding edge one. Just before the Series X came out I sold me Xbox One X and the net upgrade cost was £150. So once every five years I pay £150 to get me state of the art console. More importantly that console has stunning performance and very, very few crashes indeed. Further I don't have to play with settings for hours to get a game performing as I want. On the XBOX Series X version of MSFS the ONLY Graphics setting is HDR on/off. That is it. I have just flown the Airbus on it from Schipol to Heathrow and it was silky smooth in 4K. I was looking out of the windows at London as I flew past. Did not see a single pop-up out of any window nor when I flipped for a short outside view look around. I would say the only reason not to use an XBOX for MSFS is linking into external software e.g. Simbrief etc and if you have non-XBOX compatible hardware. If you are happy to stay inside the MSFS world then it is awesome.
