August 26, 20214 yr AUGUST 26TH, 2021 DEVELOPMENT UPDATE Posted by: Microsoft Flight Simulator Team Screenshot by Red4Pushback On Tuesday at gamescom, we announced four major updates coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator later this fall: on September 7th we are releasing World Update VI featuring Austria, Germany & Switzerland and alongside it, we are introducing a new payware series called “Local Legends” that celebrate the region of the current World Update; for World Update VI, we selected the German Junkers JU-52 which will be released September 9th. For later this fall, we announced the first major expansion to the sim, featuring the Reno Air Races, which introduces competitive multiplayer and more. And finally, we have a fascinating new aircraft, (electric vertical take-off and landing) air taxi for urban flights called “VoloCity”, which will also be released soon. If you missed it click here to read more about it or check out the trailers below: – The MSFS team DEVELOPMENT ROADMAP We are currently working on the updated Development Roadmap and will share it in next week’s Dev Update. KEY: SU = Sim Update (3, 4, etc.) WU = World Update ASAP = As Soon as Possible TBD = To Be Determined Several Releases = Fixes will come over a series of updates Ongoing Fixes = An item we will continually be working on Planned = Scheduled to be worked on Under Investigation = The team is currently looking into the issue Not Planned = We will likely not work on this Started = Work has started on this item SDK UPDATE General Three months after the launch of the DevSupport platform, we would like to thank you for all your posts (already 400 of them!). We are doing our best to provide answers to each topic, even though some of the topics require a lot of time to investigate, discuss, etc. But this platform is also meant for you as a community so please feel free to provide your own answers and solutions if you encounter something you can provide insight into! Dev Mode We’re preparing a new pop-up to display important information when you launch the game with the DevMode enabled. This will allow us to communicate more efficiency when a major change is coming. We also fixed the missing content info thumbnail on our simple aircraft sample. Aircraft Editor We fixed the corruption that could occur within CFG files when saving your project. We are also working on a refactoring of the CFG file parsing, since the way the editor currently works, it removes all comments and adds spaces, additional zeros, etc. We fixed a crash that could occur when reloading the current aircraft after changing its contact points. 3RD PARTY UPDATE As of 08/22, we have now approved 215 (+9) third parties into the in-sim marketplace and – so far 115 (+0) have released 520 products on PC (+2) and 73 on Xbox (+0). A few months ago, she posted in the Microsoft Flight Simulator subreddit that her father, a pilot, was terminally ill and was no longer medically cleared to fly. Mookattacks didn’t know much about flight simming, so she asked for help from the community to get her dad set up with everything he needed for virtual flying. Many members of the subreddit provided tech advice, and some even generously offered to donate hardware. Thanks to the support of the community, he was able to enjoy the thrill of flight once again. Last week, Mookattacks posted an update that her father sadly passed on July 14. We offer Mookattacks our most sincere condolences for her loss. From the teams at Asobo and Microsoft, it heartens us to hear that our simulator was able to bring someone peace, comfort, and joy during their final days. He managed to fly a few more times before he passed on 7/14/21” TWITCH UPDATE We stream weekly on Twitch.tv/MSFSOfficial! Join us for a community fly-in to around the French Riviera! Pearson simultaneously held the offices of President of the United States and Prime Minister of Canada, respectively. That’s not all they had in common: both world leaders have an airport serving their country’s largest city named after them. This video from Thyago Ludwig features a timelapse of an Airbus A320 flying between New York Kennedy International (KJFK) and Toronto Pearson International (CYYZ). FEATURED FREEWARE MOD In 1996, legendary aircraft designer Burt Rutan created the Model 202 Boomerang, an asymmetric twin engine plane featuring forward-swept wings. Only one was ever built, but now anyone can fly this unique design in Microsoft Flight Simulator thanks to modder Technotech. You can download the freeware Rutan Boomerang addon here. August 26, 20214 yr So still no plane updates today but they might do some soon (but even then still not the full list of ones that have been sent in) ?

If not before, it continues to come into focus that this is based on entertainment and yet so many of us are experienced in simulation. It just is what it is. And after a long period of frustration I have settled in to enjoy it for what it is and am casting aside most of my for-what-it-could-be sentiment. There is value in both. My proportion of time in MSFS vs a previous sim with a robust complement of addons has recently, after SU5, hotfixes, and a total uninstall, scrub of all traces, and new fresh MSFS install, has increased from 30/70 to more like 50/50. The NXi is likely as responsible for that as is SU5 and hotfixes. I fly mostly GA twins and flights that average just over 2 hours. I do fly some $100 hamburger flights where I also enjoy the sightseeing/scenery quality. More progress is needed on other MSFS attributes for that trend to continue to evolve for me. August 27, 20214 yr Wow, if that story from the Reddit user Mookattacks doesn't hit ya in the heart...... Condolences to her and her family and I hope she takes solace in knowing she helped bring some joy to her Dad in his final days. Edit: And while I'm here, a belated thanks to @ChaoticBeauty for continually bringing these developer updates over to the AVSIM crowd. August 27, 20214 yr I'm hoping that "AI Traffic Needs Fixing" (or however it's phrased on the list) also includes making it possible for developers to create traffic add-ons with real aircraft, liveries, and routes, if Asobo doesn't plan to do that themselves? August 27, 20214 yr First major expansion "Reno air races", omg how incredibly boring is that. Seriosly guys you have to come up with something better than that.

August 27, 20214 yr Looking forward to all these updates. The Junkers JU-52 unlike the interior of many DLC planes actually has a default quality cabin which will really be nice to look at. The Volocopter is probably just a simple tier 0 implementation of rotor tech, although something like this seems more suited to suplement a career mode, it's kind of wasted as a DLC purchase in my opinion... On the updated scenery - I bought Hong Kong City Times a while ago and when it was released I wasn't that impressed, but my word it has changed - so much busier than it was and covering such a large area. It did crash my PC though after changin weather and time of day several times which probably didn't help.
