But, for me, I get no sensation of flying whatsoever when running flat. No feeling of speed, nor height nor scale. I look forward to the days when VR gets a much higher resolution at sensible frame rates

Agreed. But I managed 2D for twenty five years, so, another couple won’t harm.

I play a lot of IL2-BoX in VR and the experience of "being" in those WWII cockpits is amazing.

That's one area I totally agree VR really does well; the 3D effect gives a much better sense of distance in all vectors and makes aiming and particularly shooting lead much more effective. My performance as a brave fighter pilot was much better in VR in IL2.

Using an LG 48“ OLED with G Sync and 120 Hz as monitor.
Best thing I ever did for gaming.

downside: you need a HDMI 2.1 GPU. And the prices are still madness.

3090 here so no issues there. Still waiting delivery of the new TV/Monitor. Then the logistics start!

Besides that, are there any differences in terms of picture quality between the C1 and G1 model besides the price.

Please let me know your experiences with it when you get it. I'm curious as to how MSFS will look on it with HDR at 4K/120Hz.

I’m thinking about picking up a LG OLED C1 77” display with g-sync premium. I think the higher screen coupled with trackIR should be good. Anyone got any experience with a screen that size sitting right in front of it?

I've long used a 75" 4K Sony TV for my flight simming, and I love it. I sit about 4 feet from the screen. You truly feel like you're flying a life-size aircraft. That's a wonderful TV you mentioned. But you can buy one for half that price that will do you just as well for MSFS. Just make sure it's 4K. When the screen size is that big, the difference between HD (1920 x 1080) and 4K (3840 x 2160) becomes very apparent in the sim.

Processor: Intel i9-13900KF 5.8GHz 24-Core, Graphics Processor: Nvidia RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6, System Memory: 64GB High Performance DDR5 SDRAM 5600MHz, Operating System: Windows 11 Home Edition, Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX, LGA 1700, CPU Cooling: Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling, RGB and LCD Display, Chassis Fans: Corsair Low Decibel, Addressable RGB Fans, Power Supply: Corsair HX1000i Fully Modular Ultra-Low-Noise Platinum ATX 1000 Watt, Primary Storage: 2TB Samsung Gen 4 NVMe SSD, Secondary Storage: 1TB Samsung Gen 4 NVMe SSD, VR Headset: Meta Quest 2, Primary Display: SONY 4K Bravia 75-inch, 2nd Display: SONY 4K Bravia 43-inch, 3rd Display: Vizio 28-inch, 1920x1080. Controller: Xbox Controller attached to PC via USB.

He linked the TV , its 4K🙄, Ian like myself looked into the TV to buy, for me the #1 thing i look for is picture quility, and strangly my C1 comes today and Ian also went for a C1 what does that say? even more as we both went with JL, lol, but changed to a G1 but LG are the ones to go for IMO now and Ive been a Samsung guys for years and my new monitor is a G7 Samsung. Also you cannot get a screen as good for 1/2 the price even the "old" 2020 versions are only a few hundred cheaper more like 20% but the new 2021 have a few upgrades worth going for. The G1 is "gallery" and would look great on a wall.

G1

"This year, though, things are different: the 2021 G1 boasts LG's new 'OLED Evo' panel, which promises a step up in picture quality over every previous LG OLED as well as the new C1. It also comes in a unique 'Gallery' design that's specifically designed for wall-mounting."

FWIW I have been flying on a 65" flat screen on the wall since early P3D.  I sit about 30" away which then provides some limited peripheral cues. First 1080p and for the past few years at 4K.  MSFS is also at 4k (not running at the moment, but that's a different story).  I could not imagine going back to a smaller monitor.

VR will have to be at 4k before I take the plunge... and I've been hunting a retail priced 3090 since Black Friday without success... so I may be waiting a while more...

Best-

Carl Avari-Cooper

Just out of curiosity -- what's next? Flightsimming in an IMax theater on a 70 foot screen? (That may not even be a joke.)
