Anyone needing a new video card for MSFS...

Featured Replies

This is tempting, but my 1080ti card is still doing pretty well -- plus our BeastBuy would be the LAST BB in the world to get any stock like this of graphics cards.

Maybe these drops are a signal that the 4xxx-series are not too far off?  I haven't been keeping up, I wonder if there is any news on that for 2022.

Are any of these newer 3080ti cards small enough to fit in an MTX case?

Have a 2080 Super suffed in my case currently...?

heads up that BestBuy just had a drop today...I got myself a wee beastie for MSRP 😁

p.s. I'm in Canada on the West Coast, but it's being reported across Can / US

Thank you for the heads up, I don't think I'll find any left by now. What would you suggest the is the best to get the info for the next drop early on automatically?

Drop for tomorrow in the US confirmed also by Toms Hardware.

Oh nooooo no no, we're a long, long way off from the next generation of cards. I'd say at least a year before we got wind of any. In fact, I'd look more for the "Super" versions of the 3xxx series.

Also, your 1080 Ti is still a beast of a card! It probably even comes close to performance of my 3060 Ti minus the RTX (and, honestly, RTX is overrated...it's nice, but it doesn't exactly revolutionize gameplay).

I am only going to replace it after prices are back to normal,

Like me you'll be dead.  Big demand still by the CC miners.  That said the 3060TI does a great job.

I'm partly ashamed to admit that after waiting in vain for more than a year for prices to get reasonable, recently after unexpectedly coming into a small chunk of change, I rationalized paying $1900 for the 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra mentioned above.  That's $400+ more than the MSRP would've been (after taxes on the $1400 MSRP), but after doing the math and realizing that whatever scumbag I was paying probably was only making $100-200 profit on the sale after seller's fees, I felt mildly better about the whole thing.  (The other scumbag, of course, being the won't-be-named third-party selling service that is also getting paid out of such blatant extortion.)

I was coming from a 2080Ti with the goal of reaching near-constant 60FPS at 4K in DCS and MSFS, and this upgrade got me about 90% of the way there in DCS and maybe 80% in MSFS.

60fps? What a waste. Your card will be hot. Your electric bill will be sky high. You can’t tell the difference between 30 and 60fps. Have you tried v-Sync locked to 30?  ***sarcastic mode off now***

On a serious note, 60fps is great in 4K, feels and looks great. Every game should be this, minimum, in the future. I hope you enjoy 🙂

Haha yeah, I fully admit I've gotten spoiled in that I've been flying on various 4K, 50-inch-plus monitors since 2013 and I've never looked back.  For the past few months I've been using a 65" OLED and it's heavenly.  I just accept that my FPS is always going to be iffy, and will require GPU upgrades every 15-18 months.   With the ever-present d-- dirty miners and the chip shortage, as of this month it had been 21 months and I was getting very irritable!

That's a sweet card.  That's on my list for a new rig.  Honestly though my current rig handles the sim pretty well.  My GTX1080 Ti still holds it's own.

It will do Ryan, it's a great card

Tough one because it totally depends on what you're aiming for and budget! Many say bang for the buck is the 3060ti or 3070, and 3080s and up if you're planning on maxing settings in 4K.

Got an EVGA 3080ti FTW3 Ultra...

I managed to get one in the UK in a flash sale about a month ago.  I love it!  Showing just over double performance to my old 1080Ti, which was actually doing quite well since the sim optimisations.

I was in despair and thought mine would have to be returned to the merchant at first, as it made a terrible noise on first start up, but I traced it to a small wire fouling on the middle fan.  I tucked it in with a pair of tweezers and all is good!

Unfortunately the setting I was aiming for (60 fps at 4k 100% scaling at ultra settings) remains tantalisingly out of reach.  Dips to 57 fps occasionally causing the odd stutter.  This is with a mild overclock.  Hoping DX12 with a better tuned overclock may eventually deliver this!    Back to default speeds and 30 fps for now.  Cool and quiet at least!

@DylanM

I thank you for your answer but I probably have mis-worded my question. The question was more about how to not get notification after it is already too late (I've read your post 17H after you've posted), but to get notifications about future drops sufficiently in advance so that you can have the time to go to BB waiting for a coupon for example! In other words, what is according to you the information streams delivering such information that you'd know, or for example how did you happen to know about the next BB drop? (maybe my question seems candid but it is!)
