When will we get 3rd party AI Traffic???

The annoying thing about it is that in the early days of FS2020, AI traffic did work. I can recall being parked waiting for takeoff, and AI traffic landing and/or taking off.

Now, Little Navmap shows AI traffic, but you never see them in the sim (except parked at airports).

ATC will pass traffic to my co-pilot (she who does the radio work) and she spots the traffic, but I never can see them. Probably doesn't exist  !!

So if it worked well once, why not now ????

I see Real-Time AI traffic regularly, did today, did yesterday and a week ago etc

so let me ask you this, are you guys even being taken seriously? I know you're exchanging emails with Jorg. Are you invited to meetings or connected with their developers to at least talk about this or are these e-mails with Jorg high level fluff nonsense? I am genuinely curious whether they're taking this seriously or not, I hope you can be transparent about this.

there are "baseline" communications between Jörg and myself from time to time.

I flew into Belin this morning and had a great deal of Live traffic. Now I am flying out of Berlin to Bremen, about 1/2 hour later, and no traffic at all. Seems as if it get switched on and off.

That doesn't sound like "we're taking this seriously" sort of connection. Is there anything else apart from voting the darn thread up we can do, or is this a lost cause until next year when they get through the hundreds of bugs they're currently dealing with?

voting, asking, bringing it back on the agenda

It feels like the people who want AI are a minority on the official forums. Maybe a minority in general to those who use MSFS.

Improving a.i. traffic is currently listed as “started” on the official feedback wishlist (item #14), so it appears they are working on it.  It might not be the highest priority item but they can only do so much at a time.

The majority seems to want Chinese language in the game 🙄

SU5 didn't break AI traffic. It still performs the same as it did before that update.
What broke was Live traffic departing from airports. Offline traffic will depart fine however, so it's specifically a problem with live traffic.

Not in my experience. Any traffic I see in LNM I can find and see in the sim.
If you're talking about live traffic, have you tried turning on name tags under traffic options?

You're just a lucky guy. My traffic appears in LNM but except for a few are all invisible. And I'm only using gLTF models and correct textures. It doesn't matter if I use bgl files or AIGTC (with FSX models) . The AI traffic system is broken and it worked before SU5.

That one throws me too. I wonder why the silent Chinese Majority don't want AI...

I suspect that most of the Asobo programmers are not going to be helping with Chinese localization.

Distressing that Kai is only getting high level communication via Jorg - I would hope that they'd put Kai in touch with the team working on that 'started' item.  Also wondering if WT will get involved since they will be tackling ATC and that certainly will need to interact with AI traffic as well

Clearly Asobo intend on rewriting this module of the game themselves - come on folks its obvious.

the AI logic is FSX based, that’s clear. It was working to a point at launch, probably because many other areas of the game engine were also FSX legacy code.

then we had SU5 which ripped out many of those FXS modules to be replaced with  the rewrites - this is why we now have a completely busted system - the link between the still legacy AI code and new code is broken.

this all comes back to a game pushed out the door when it clearly was still at an early stage of development- IMO it was launched two years prematurely

since AIG was mentioned here I think it is time for me to jump in as well^^

The reason why there is no 3rd party AI traffic is quite simple, but complicated at the same time:

1) MDLX Models do cause major issues at the moment (our Workaround will get an update shortly). All models need to be upgraded/or developed again from 0. This takes actual quite some time (freeware models take around 3-6 months each).

2) Texture issues: Even getting MDLX models working, there are still the textures that might need an upgrade (alpha, etc..)

3) ATC/AI-Logic: Well some stuff is FSX based, something seems new and other stuff seems "broken" FSX-Code. The overall idea of any 3rd party Addon is that it is working on the vanilla game and as long this is not possible it is unlikely to get released. And there are several issues at the moment that are far from acceptable in MSFS when it comes to working in vanilla:

- ATC altitude callouts: Flying with a small AI setup I can not contact ATC over europe, becuase it is bussy telling the AI to climb to the assigned altitude

- Parking sizes: Default Airports have new (unrealsitic parking sizes), so AI parking is not possible (no A380 in Dubai for example)

- Seperation, Taxi, Takeoff: The overall awareness of ATC about the AI Traffic seems worse then in FSX, resulting in far more go arounds or "timeouts" sometimes even nose-to-nose incidents. Actual AI Cars seem to have a higher priority then airplanes when it comes to taxiway usage....

- AI Flight Performance: Downgraded as hell.... using old AIR files is even worse. Spotting or even watching AI is not fun at all.

Performance: Well actual it is far better then expected: Keeping 60FPS with 100+AI in Paris on ultra. So graphis can handle the amount of AI.

AI might be a easy cash-cow at the moment, but see what other developers have done thinking about easy $$$ 😉

3-6 months EACH? You mean like 3-6 months for the E190 and again 3-6 months for the E195, or more like 3-6 months for the A320-family and another 3-6 months for all 737s?

About 3): While we all agree that we don't want to have planes colliding on the runways, immersion would take a quantum leap just with the gates populated with your realistic looking and realistically scheduled aircraft. After all one could reduce those ugly incidents by reducing the traffic slider, until Asobo fixes those things. I'd rather not wait years for what AIG brings to the table, but that's up to you, of course. I personally consider AIG the single most important thing for immersion and will take anything you give me, no matter how bad the AI/ATC handles it.

Is a release in 2021 still possible, or do you rule that out?

Oh and by the way the performance aspect is great news! AIG traffic was the plague for my P3D's FPS (still worth it, of course), so I'm really happy about that.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Completely busted?  :laugh::laugh::laugh:

I think it's a small minority who would throw the baby out until its full grown.  Veteran simmer for decades, fly MSFS more than I ever did FSX/P3D completely tricked out w/ lots of the planes and scenery a $1000+ would buy.  Waiting two more years to accommodate people who can't enjoy the incredible engine already out the door because it's not perfect enough is something I would never support, and I doubt many would.  Besides, for all of the staff they have they're going to develop it another two years before every seeing any income from it?  That doesn't sound practical--all to keep people who can't deal with its shortcomings from flipping out.
