October 20, 20214 yr I'm seeing considerably more VRAM in use it seems on my one test flight, and that is with the terrain slider at 400, but I had set that to 400 previously in the .opt file. Once again I left all Community Folder files in the folder before the update and so far no problems with the B787 Heavy Division which is working as it should w/o any updates from HD. I see the Shift-Z mod still works fine too. Thus far, it's really looking about the same except as I say considerably more VRAM in use, I would guess perhaps 20% greater use. Up at FL400 right now halfway between KIAD and KORD in cloudy skies I'm seeing 9.3Gb, whereas previously it would probably have been around 7.2Gb. I'm guessing the likely cause is the Terrain Detail slider set at 400 is functioning differently than it did by editing the .opt file to 400 pre SU6. Remains to be seen how it functions in the most complex airports. At KIAD a bit ago it was showing 9.4 to 10.3Gb on the ground during taxi. Probably a different continent, too! 🙂 Well it wasn't the servers after all - unfortunately, because that would've been easy. I was early on to download the update yesterday and flew out of Sim-Wings' EDDH (jay) to JustSim's EDDV (boo) and back to check the TBM's AP and all with a short flight plan. After the servers came back on this morning I spawned at EDDH several times, flew patterns, all just as always. Not surprising that I was thinking it's the servers again when FS stopped loading EDDH, it starts loading, then the download drops down to a trickle with the CPU still under 80% load and then it never finishes - completely out of the blue and repeatable all the time. It didn't load the live weather on the flight config screen either, so it looked even more like a server issue. So I just spawned on a Danish airport not too far away, sim loaded fine. I went back to the main menu and spawned again at EDDH -> success. This is some elusive issue that has been reported a few times on the forums, maybe a close relative to the "Sim freezes when I load <airport>" with the difference that the sim does not really freeze, it just slows down to almost a halt (so no "not responding" tag in Task Manager). I was investigating this kind of crud after SU5/WU6 and apparently that's still around after SU6 (not surprised because this might be impossible to replicate, particularly on a different computer, for example in Bordeaux).
October 20, 20214 yr Good patch for me. The night-lighting in particular looks great now (at lower alts at least). i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
October 20, 20214 yr I had hoped - in vain, as it turned out - for a fix for the graphics issues introduced with SU5, especially purple color fringes and rasterized color gradients. Asus ROG STRIX X870-E Gaming; Ryzen9 9950X3D; RX9070XT; 96GB RAM; 4GB/2GB M.2 SSD; 8GB HDD; LG 45GX90SA-B
October 20, 20214 yr When taxiing at night, does anyone else notice the taxiway lights go out near the aircraft?

We have now more scalability (LOD 400), trees draw distance bug at high latitude is fixed (also at LOD 200), the new cubemap reflections setting fixed the blocky cloud reflections... Also the aircraft controls seem improved, less jerky and more enjoyable. They say they improved stability too, I can't judge because I never suffered CTDs. Overall a net improvement over SU5/WU6. I actually thought it was just me, but I found the controls much better too.. especially on the take off run. All with my previous curves and settings it just seems to have enhanced them even more.
October 20, 20214 yr The game looks much better, but it cost more performance than I expected, it looks and perform much like it did in SU4 to me. I'm seeing considerably more VRAM in use now which I believe has to do with exactly what the Terrain Detail slider does, and I think it's different from what editing the .opt file did for that variable. It is mostly on the ground at large add on airports with a lot of traffic that I see the biggest deterioration in performance, not so much up in the air. October 20, 20214 yr Did the fix the yaw bug upon rotation? I did a few mins last night in the boz and it felt a lot more like it does in real life especially in a xwind. At least three beta testers have posted in the main forum that Vatsim aircraft lighting definitely was fixed in SU6, and two other individuals have confirmed that it is working for them (on Vatsim) post-SU6. Others see no change. I don’t know if the server glitches yesterday might be having an effect. Server problems could certainly affect injected Live Traffic, but VATSIM is an independent network. October 20, 20214 yr It's hard to give a verdict on FPS performance as I have about 1/10th of the usual multiplayers I usually have flying near me, if any.
