The haze is incredible

Featured Replies

I have not been a big opponent of the haze previously, maybe it was overdone slightly.

But what I discovered today was haze accumulating in a valley, outside the valley it was clear. Looked very natural to me, and made the approach to the airfield in that valley slightly more interesting.

Interesting that the culprit was the g3000.  Glad you're still making progress.  Up until msfs2020 I was still fsx'ing and one of my last flights was out of your KAFW - you did a fantastic job on that project, much appreciated.  I was dabbling in airport design back then, but no time now with business, especially trying to learn new tools/techniques/SDK/constant sim changes, so I definitely understand your pain.  Nice to see your still at it and I can't wait for your first release to ms2020.

Thanks!  I plan to build KAFW for FS2020 but I am still learning the SDK and new modeling/texturing techniques.  My current project was a small airport to learn these things on.  I was making some good progress and then real world stuff has delayed me now.  Hopefully after the holidays I will have more time to finish this one up.  I am probably going to do a military airfield next and then AFW so it will be awhile still.  AFW is going to be undergoing some changes in the real world so I'd like it to be as up to date as possible when I complete it.  It's already changed a ton from the one I did for FSX/P3D.

I have quit using Live Weather because of the haze.  The last two days have been perfectly clear here, and you can see for miles. But with Live Weather I can't see the runway until I'm almost on it.

If I use the preset for clear, it matches today's weather perfectly. I started several weeks ago touring the country so I could enjoy the scenery and with all that haze I can hardly see the ground.

I like the concept, but the haze is overdone.

Wow, doing pattern work this afternoon with METAR and ATIS reporting 10 for visibility, and couldn't even see the field from the downwind leg.

The haze looks amazing but I also feel it is overdone. Is it possible that the weather engine is making it extra "thick" because the METAR only shows visibility up to 10 statute miles? So it might be giving us 10 miles visibility?

Where were you flying? This seems to affect the US the most.

I experienced the haze for the first time. It looked quite beautiful with the setting sun (although I don't know if it was accurate). However, as others have reported, weather suddenly changed when I reached a certain altitude, although the haze remained. Clear skies seen from the runway, then clouds materialised above a fairly low altitude. It does unfortunately break the immersion.

But, I have every faith it will be ironed out, just as the drawing/popping in of scenery was fixed with a new option after SU5.

I had the same thing back when I was flying x-plane 11 ! Dejavu!

Good grief 😲

I have never been to the USA, California or flown over it.  I only have many hours in MSFS using PilotEdge over southern California and I recognised where you were instantly!  SU7 haze plus Google Maps Mod does a remarkable job there!

It's weird how situational this is.  Here's a shot from the moment I accepted a visual into Boston last night.  You probably won't see the airport if you don't know where to look, but not because of the haze.  It just - realistically - blends in. But we're still pretty far out, and no haze, nor did any develop.  Saw a little in the valleys while en route, it was perfect.

I did a couple of flights in Europe today, and no haze. I did see some awfully low clouds, but at least the sky was clear. Someone posted that this haze problem is mostly in the US.

Same here, did couple of flights in scandinavia/eastern europe. No haze either apart from low level clouds.. not really low level - they actually touched the ground.

This is probably because in Europe they have CAVU or CAVOK  or 9999 LOL
