The haze is incredible

I am doing some experimenting now, but I am told that this haze is not a problem in Europe, just in the US, Might  try a couple  of flights in Europe and see if you still get the haze.

Nope.  Its in the UK too.  After taking off from London City, I couldn't word not allowed Canary Wharf until I was right on top of it and from there couldn't see Tower Bridge.  The haze is everywhere.

What with the haze and half the sky washed out when looking towards the sun it's a miracle anyone can see anything!

So how come , some are seeing haze and others are not, both using live weather. ????

It's Climate Change 🤥Wasn't supposed to be implemented until SU21.

This is probably because in Europe they have CAVU or CAVOK  or 9999 LOL

In the US, it appears that if the METAR indicates visibility of 10 miles, they are setting it to exactly 10 miles in every case.

Perhaps the new METAR parser in MSFS is interpreting “9999” (in a European METAR) as 9999 miles rather than 9999 meters, which would explain why the “haze everywhere” problem does not seem to exist there. I know that MSFS has had issues in the past properly converting to and from imperial to metric units.

Automated weather systems  that most airport have only can "see"  up to 10SM (don't remember exactly which one A01/02 in remark)

Also a good reminder that METAR and TAF  actually show weather within 5 miles of airport. There is also chart called "weather depiction chart" that consists of collection of METARS and does has provision for "clear sky". It could  definitely help Asobo within US

Just come back from the flight  and in my case real world meets sim pretty good lol

I grew up in San Diego county and recognize exactly where your “real” shot was taken - flying eastbound and crossing Interstate 15 a few miles north of Escondido.

You guys are good spies LOL Yes we had tons of traffic and our regular spots were taken by "stacked" aircraft from other schools. So we fled across 15 to valley center to find a bubble of happiness LOL

I just flew the FBW  A320 from Kjac-Ksan  , no haze at all, infact a clear sky all the way. I have yet to see any over Europe as well. There was low cloud on approach to LiML earlier , but that was cloud at 2k

Approaching KBMI now and can see a fog / haze bank getting closer.

It really is very well implemented.

If, as some of us surmise, the misplaced fog/haze is due to cloud heights being misinterpreted by the new weather system as MSL instead of AGL, it requires a combination of a cloud layer at, for example 2,000 AGL, and an airport at or above something like 1,500 or so. There are lots of places in the American Midwest and West that are at surprisingly high altitudes. Combine that with a cloud layer at some intermediate altitude interpreted as being expressed as MSL and you get ground fog.

I tried this out yesterday

and for these cases, at least, it does check out. There may be other causes, but this looks like it's one. For airports near sea level it's not a problem, since AGL and MSL are about the same, so one would never notice.

Hope this makes sense.....

Cheers.
