Nvidia 511.23

Recommended Posts

I just tested these new drivers and pretty solid so far.  I tinkered with the new DSR function and enabled but not sure if I enabled it with the right settings or not - we'll see what the feedback end up being on good settings.

Just for our edification, has there ever been a driver update that significantly improved flight sim performance for any video cards except the most recent? I've seen all sorts of reports of one thing or another going wrong, but has anything ever gone really, really right?

Cheers.

Not that I recall. Often such reports were e.g. from users who hosed their Control Panel settings which were corrected by a clean installation of the new driver.

On the other hand, some new drivers introduced new options like DSR or Image Scaling/Sharpening at a point, which could be useful for image quality, notably under VR.

Kind regards, Michael

1/2 Refresh rate with FSX was a big improvement.

Anyone found the new graphics filters with the new drivers?

The new filters are Screen Space Ray-Traced Global Illumination, Screen Space Ambient Occlusion and Dynamic Depth of Field - I can only see the Dynamic Depth of Field.

Excellent point. So that's once a decade.

OK, that's really unfair, but here are the release notes: https://www.techspot.com/downloads/drivers/essentials/nvidia-geforce/

It looks like a couple of MSFS issues have been resolved:

  • [Microsoft Flight Simulator]: The game may crash to the desktop during gameplay. [3454519]
  • [Microsoft Flight Simulator]: Purple/blue artifacts appear on ground textures in the game. [3454530]

So this update would certainly be useful for some users.

Same here. These new filters are missing from many other games aswell. It's a known issue.

Thanks for the heads up. Installed. No immediate noticeable difference.

I keep all of my drivers 100% up to date all the time to prevent problems and ensure that I can get support if I need it.

VR (WMR, Reverb G2), 2070SUPER, HAGS Off, Default nVidia profile, no GeForce Profile, identical settings/flight used for both.

Personally I see a couple extra FPS, nothing out of this world but every little helps, I have not flown with this driver yet to determine actual usage though.

Getting very smooth frame pacing with this driver - it's a keeper. Good feedback coming through on the other forums as well.

The drivers are different (tweaked) depending on your card, correct? I'm on 511.23 with a 980ti but that wouldn't use the exact same 511.23 driver that a modern 3080ti would, correct?

The driver number will obviously be the same, but it would only use the aspects of the driver that apply to your card.  For instance, it couldn't load the ray-tracing part of the driver.

Normally, for older cards there is no benefit unless the card or a game that you play is specifically mentioned in the driver notes.

I have found though, that sometimes there are 'hidden' fixes, or fixes for one game that carry over to another without a specific mention in the driver notes.

For this driver, the notes say they have fixed upper screen corruption sometimes happening in certain apps - I wonder if that fixes the problem some are seeing in MSFS with the clouds at the top of the screen?

So they are sometimes worth a try.  You can always roll back.  Takes a few minutes with something like DDU.
