February 15, 20224 yr Hello, hoping to get some information on what nVidia driver version people are successfully using in MSFS. I recently started getting CTDs almost every flight, different aircraft, locations etc. I think they may have started when I recently updated my nVidia drivers last week as I was told I needed to when i was getting my new Reverb G2 VR headset going. Oddly the CTDs tend to happen only is 2D mode, I don’t recall having one yet with the VR headset on. It might be something else but I’d like to try and revert my drivers…the trouble is I don’t know what version I was using. Best guess is I last updated sometime in the fall. It’s a bit of a long shot but I’m trying to figure out why this started happening suddenly. Happy of course for any other ideas. February 15, 20224 yr Everyone will have their own opinion on what driver works best for everyone, works best for their specific computer, people who don't notice a difference, and some who experience placebo. Me personally, I update my driver every single time my Geforce Experience tells me there is an update. My driver is never out of date and I have never had to roll one back. Do you have any addons in your community folder? That bit of information could also help us diagnose. If you are experiencing issues the first thing is to empty your community folder and see if the simulator runs as intended. Is it done yet? When will it be released? Will it be freeware or payware? How much will it cost? Any updates on the progress? Will it work for Xbox? Can I be a beta tester? How's the performance in VR?
February 15, 20224 yr The lastest driver, I believe it is 521? works good for me with a 2070 Super. Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.
February 15, 20224 yr Hi , 511.75 I have just updated but didn't get a 511.79 option. On the other side of the world so it might be available in 12 hours or so. I agree with @PWJT8D . I also update every driver. I am having a problem with chequered liveries (see another post on that) but that seems to be from way back and no updates have improved it. It should be noted that most updates do not specifically mention MSFS and so they may not affect the title in any way at all. On the other hand, there may be elements of code in the new driver which generally improve the cards performance regardless of specific game title. You just don't know so it's probably best to keep updated. I suppose if you only do certain things and do them all the time, then remaining with a stable driver would be fine but if you are forever downloading into your community folder, and trying everything new out, then I would think keeping the driver up to date might be more important. February 15, 20224 yr i was getting constant CTD in update 7 and the beta 8 so I rolled back to 497.xx drivers and seem stable for now. I had the 511.xx driver and it was a disaster for me. 7900x3d , 64gb 6200mhz 30CL Ram, RTX 3080
February 15, 20224 yr I let nVidia control my drivers. I have the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card and the latest driver is 496.49. I don't trust third party sources that want to select y driver. Roy i7-10700 CPU @2.90 GHz, 32 GB Ram, nVadia GTX1660ti, Samsung 1 TB SSD Drive

Well, as I said above, I have just downloaded the latest available 511.75 and it didn't fix my texture issues but it it seems that was another issue altogether. However, in the course of troubleshooting the texture issue, I downloaded the 511.75 driver and now I'm getting flickering on light coloured external and internal aircraft surfaces which wasn't there before I down loaded this driver ...arrrrgh! So I guess I'm going to have take back a little of what I said above and maybe roll back to 497.xx or wait until 511.79 is available in this part of the world and hope that's the quick fix. Cheers Terry I rather deal w a few textures issues then a CTD every flight, it totally kills the mood to even play it again... I try the 497.xx and its been ok so far and i did a flight w no issues. honestly MSFS has been such a disaster and let down. So many issues the past year.... 7900x3d , 64gb 6200mhz 30CL Ram, RTX 3080
February 15, 20224 yr Using the 511.65 driver at the moment and it's OK. I think some of the earlier ones were better though, particularly the ones that were optimised for MSFS just after it was launched. The 472 point something was great as far as far as I can recall. February 15, 20224 yr I always use the latest drivers, but I do not see much difference between any of them. Asus Maximus Hero X11, Intel i9 10850k, 32gb Corsair Dominator ram, 2tb Corsair mp510 ssd m2, Gigybyte turbo RTX 3090
February 15, 20224 yr 511.65 - rock solid and smooth for me mostly. I'm also on SU8 beta and seems to be working very well with it (for me at least). Not the highest FPS ever, but perhaps best overall performance.
February 15, 20224 yr Developers use the latest drivers or they run the risk of there product being unusable. And the same with the O/S so they can fix problem that users may have that`s why they often ask is your system up to date when you have a problem. And in the case of GPU drivers Asobo and MS are best placed to give feedback to AMD and Nvidia if an issue come to light that is driver related. Raymond Fry.
