PMDG 737 RELEASE NEXT WEEK!!

Featured Replies

The MD80 probably benefitted from some first mover advantage sales.  Unfortunately for them the PMDG will likely cost less, have better textures, better sound, and still qualify for the “study level” moniker.  I noticed on RSR’s pricing announcement he made specific mention of their new textures and sounds, and I’m sure that’s in no small part due to the criticism the MD80 has received.  While he may have encouraged simmers to check out Leonardo’s offering, all is still fair in love and war.

Is that true!?

I feel like I had all 3 aircraft in P3D for one purchase. If what you've said is true, then everything I said was wrong, and LSH is absolutely crazy.

On P3D the 83 and 88 were in an expasion pack, however quite lowly priced at like 25 dollars or something. I think it will be the same on MSFS. Also the md80 being a niche product anyway (just ask around how many people know the 737 and how many have heard of the md80...) they ask for higher prices to stay profitable, because they know that even at 50 dollars they can never compete against the 737 or 320. That's probably the reason for the high price.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

We will see the price when it comes. Noone knows it until it is set. But I remember they said that the prices where up in P3D because it was a licenced professional product that had to be payed, or something similar, and that when a more "video game" or entertainment simulator would come, the price would be lower. We will see, next Monday and see who was right. Not always receive more incomes because a higher price, but the key is the number of buyers. DCS Apache received loooots of buyers and the initial price was 54$ and a huge number of people bought it. People that even still didn't fly it.

Hope they do the same with their 737-700 as for example I was not going to buy the DC6, but the nice price pushed me to do it. Even I am not a big fan of airliners.

Good luck to everyone

You think wrong. The other variants are stand alone products and sold as such. So they won't be cheaper.

And so all things considered, the MD-80 is cheaper, they're just not charging per variant, which I think is LSH's biggest mistake here.

On FSX/P3D, Leonardo did charge for additional variants. The MD-82 was the base package, and was required for any later variant upgrades. They then introduced the MD-83 and MD-88 as upgrade “expansions” to the base package for less money, but they were not stand-alone products.  The base MD-82 model contained some of the flight model and avionics functionality not found in the expansions, and the expansions would not function (or even install) without the MD-82 base product.

I assume they will follow the same scheme in MSFS. The base price of the MD-82 is €75. The later variants, when released, will probably cost less, but will require the MD-82 to be installed

What are you talking about? About P3D? https://secure.simmarket.com/leonardo-software-fly-the-maddog-x-md-83-and-md-88-p3d4.phtml

Or about the future? Because the MSFS variants are not yet sold at all.
Or do you have insider information in LSH?

I was confused. I was thinking you were talking about PMDG's variants for MSFS. Disregard what I said. 😉

No worries.

Watch him use the goofy Captain Sim pricing method:

700 - $73.77

600 - $73.76

800 - $73.78

900 - $73.79

It won't happen, Rob said that each variant will be a stand alone.

Did he really say that, or just that there would be no “base product” required before purchasing an “expansion.”  There’s a subtle difference between that and a discounted pricing scheme, but it’s there nonetheless.

He really said that. If you want, you can go back and search his posts and comments, because I don't feel like doing it for you, but that is indeed what RSR said.

I can confirm. It was explained in one of his "Captains!" posts earlier this year (or maybe December). They decided to change the pricing model and will bundle them by hull length, each being a standalone package. This reflects how different the market functions with MSFS, and allows to lower the threshold for not-so-hardcore users. But I think it's also hard to make a base package plus extensions model work with the market place, I seem to remember something along these lines related to the JustFlight Arrows.

That was in reference to pricing.  Previous posts explained it pretty well already.

In which case, what I said is still relevant.

Does anyone know if the virtual cabin with the release version has seats in?   Online footage when switching views etc has the virtual cabin, but sometimes no seats are present; does the passenger cabin have seats? I know they will be improved upon in future updates, but seem ok for me to start with, just wondering?

Cheers,

Simon
