Has MSFS stalled?

Sucks for OP!

MSFS gives me absolute wow…ooooo….awwww moments every time I fly.

The skies and terrain casts look so much more atmospheric and dream like with SU9.

The Xplane word not allowed must be getting worried as their only valid criticism of MSFS 2020 was a real lack of any "Study Level" airliners, which has now been consigned to history, maybe the imminent arrival of the the best airliner in any sim has them worried?

The poster is becoming bored with MSFS, that's it and that is all that needs discussing. He specifically mentioned weather and window wipers.  XP12 may, or may not, satisfy him to continue with flight simulation.  Your post has nothing at all to do with the subject of the thread.

Don't use X-plane. Don't turn the topic into an x-plane v msfs topic pls.

What a bizarre thing to think after the 9th sim update just completed, we have the 10th world update in a couple of days which Jorg said would be the most detailed yet, 3 highly anticipated study-level tubes just dropped with one more, perhaps the most highly anticipated, due within a matter of days…

Again like I mentioned I am talking about the core sim. I dont buy addon planes. I am using the FBW A320. I dont fly often enough to spend that kind of money on planes (nor have the time to learn to fly them properly).

As for the take up golf or fishing comments 🤔 I been using Flight Sims since MS5 and even when it stopped at FSX I moved on to 2 other sims (won't name them here to avoid a flame war) then back to MSFS which is the best out of the lot but it was the new stuff on each version that kept me going.

The key part of what i am saying - I think a lot of people don't buy addons like myself so rely on the core sim improving with new features to keep us entertained. When that starts to drop off we become bored. I have no plans to go to another sim or leave. Just have to wait until it does improve in that aspect. Not many who hold views like mine would come to a forum like this but there you go!

I enjoyed reading the responses though (and I mean that in a nice way 🙂 )

MSFS is twenty years ahead of the so-called "competition." If the OP can't see much difference between the current version and the original version of MSFS, it's probably because even the original version provided worldwide scenery that is often indistinguishable from reality itself. It's like criticizing manufacturers of photographic equipment because photography isn't progressing much these days -- not considering that photography has already surpassed the resolution of human vision. You've got everything you need, and then some! I agree with the gentleman who said that the one valid criticism of MSFS -- i.e., that it had no study-level airliners -- has just been wiped away with the release of the PMDG 737.

Ok, but even if you just stick to the vanilla sim, have you ever had a platform so regularly updated with free new stuff as this one?

So by this "logic," none of the 9 Sim Updates and none of the 8 World Updates count as updates. This is known as the "No True Scotsman" fallacy.

I've never read a post before that more contrasts with my own experience of something.

SU8 and SU9 have been gamechanges (a couple of minor bugs aside).  The sim is stable, visually the best it's been, has flight dynamics that are developing fantastically (new C172 FDE are stunning), performance is the best it's been (at least with my humble 1080Ti), and we've had a dozen fantastic 3rd party releases in the lasty month.

Could we really expect any more?

They do count as updates but as already stated - the sim updates are mostly bug fixes fixing things broken in earlier releases. Not much in the way of new core sim features like an improved ATC or similar feature.

The world updates they churn out are impressive work but how different are they to what was already there before the update? That was already good enough for simming. For sight seeing-simmers I can understand but how many simmers want to fly around gazing at updated 3d models. Not me.

By the overwhelming sales numbers and shift to MSFS from other platforms, the answer to your question appears to be "millions."

Re: making the most of default planes and/or freeware mods/add-ons, look at this recent thread: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/618987-what-default-asobo-aircraft-are-considered-to-be-ok-or-good/ ... the default C172 has become quite good, taking advantage of recent aerodynamics improvements in SU8 and SU9  which are definitely new features (prop physics, CFD: https://devsupport.flightsimulator.com/storage/attachments/2425-debug-aircraft-cfd.pdf, etc). Also note the vast amount of improvements and new features in the avionics department such as how MS/Asobo brought Working Title on board, and now we have something good and complex like the G1000 Nxi for free from the marketplace, probably the most high fidelity default avionics in any sim.

If other aspects of the sim aren't moving enough for you despite all the great world/scenery updates in recent two years, then perhaps you should wait till full helicopters and/or gliders support, or full seasons support, or whatever else that tickles your fancy currently on the backlog: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/618454-may-5th-2022-development-update/ (note especially the 'wishlist' charts)

If none of that is doing it for you, and you really don't want to try one or more of the many high fidelity add-on aircrafts currently available (which would be very unfortunate), then I guess your best bet by your own admission is just to wait, given that you don't care to go to other sims either... not sure what you expect to hear from us given that we can only go by what MS/Asobo has publicly said about future plans, which I assume you're keeping tabs on.

@sanh - It sounds like you're perhaps a little burned out with MSFS.  We all get tired sometimes and notice the negatives more than the positives.  When it happens to me in flight sim, I spend a few weeks with the train sims that I also enjoy.   Then they get tiring and I'm back to flight sim, refreshed and enthusiastic again.

That's your problem right there.

You will never understand how SDK updates have helped devs produce the most immersive aircraft in the most immersive scenery available today.

I agree that the core sim needs improvement, but right now, there is no better looking, performing, or a affordable sim available for Pilots or console simmers.

MSFS

The OP sounds like a typical gamer needing new glitz to help him cope w/ boredom as he derives satisfaction out of new glitz, not flying a FS per se.  Or is just a very casual user so pays little attention to what has changed in MSFS.  Yes, it looks very similar to how it looked on Day 1, but a slew of improvements have been already delivered w/ more to follow by all accounts.  Or, it's just a trolling comment as OzW points out the timing couldn't be more significant.

Flying, once up at altitude, can be boring and that is more true in any flight simulator than in any real plane where there are actual consequences.   I use A Pilot's Life v2 which scores each and every flight according to set of criteria that may well be expanded beyond where it is now, but it's already decent, and it adds soem challenge.  After 40h of AS CRJ700 in APLv2 my pilot rating is 95.43 or something like that but is slowly improving at least most of the time.  It blends nicely w/ PACX so we can have cabin announcements and pax reactions to enhance our airline pilot career.  The CRJ700 is the perfect plane because you have to pay attention to keep it all under good control so I find myself paying more attention than ever.  This helps overcome the reality that flight simming has no consequences per se and adds some challenge to help keep your head in the game.  I do have to laugh with this comment:

Remember when a new version came out every 2 years of the legacy series with significant advances

Yes I remember shelling out $200 so we could have light reflect off of autogen you couldn't crank up the density of else performance tanked, and a few other nothing changes going from V2 to V3 or what have you.  64 bit was V4, and that was about all it was.  These 'legacy' sims were missing so much that minor changes seemed significant.
