This is the inflection point

Featured Replies

From the moment MSFS was announced i think most people could see the potential of this sim. The journey has been long, and we’ve had our fair share of ups and downs, but with the recent and upcoming releases of serious study level sims, combined with the maturing of the core sim, i think we have reach an inflection point with this project. The amazing potential of MSFS has been clearly demonstrated with PMDG’s 737 and the upcoming Fenix A320, not to forget the Maddog and Just Flight’s 146 Professional. This is the golden era of our hobby.

Of course lots of work remains, but to me this platform has exceeded my wildest dreams only a few short years ago. This is also the point, i believe, where many holdouts from other sims will now jump in. It is just too hard to resist for sim fans.

Welcome aboard, Captains!

Not yet, but we are almost there.

And for GA, the C 310 is one of the best GA aircraft I have ever flown in a sim, and I am including all the A2A I had in P3D.

Repeating what I said on another thread: In a span of just 2-3 weeks, the JF Bae 146, Maddog MD80, Milviz C310, FSW C414, PMDG 737, Fenix A320 have all transformed MSFS to the sim it was meant to be as far as I'm concerned. And RobJC like you say it's a major inflection point at the very least. Now bring on the Sting S4, iniBuilds A310, HondaJet, and on and on! And just think, these are just the first incarnations from the respective devs, for a sim that's just under 2 years old... Can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings from all these devs, and also Asobo for the core sim (let alone the coming years)!

When I first got into flight simming in 1986 on the Commodore 64 with Sublogic Flight Simulator II that was some major excitement.. fast forward then to playing Flight Unlimited on a PC was another period of equal excitement if not more... in the coming years I'd use FSX, XP, P3D but never felt that into it.  And then in 2020 I got into flight simming again with MSFS and fast forward to now, just unbelievable times as to what we're able to immerse ourselves in on a computer with a sim like MSFS and aircrafts like above.

Like you say, still lots of work to do, but the platform and experience has indeed exceeded my wildest expectations too.

Totally agree, now all I need is a brand new PC to really run this bad boy as intended.......money is tight though but I'm more than happy how the 737 performs on my i7 4790k, 1070 and 16GB RAM.

It's been years since I had a grin on my face while playing FS.

Q2 2022 has been superb for MSFS.

MSFS 2020 is such a beautiful sim, that I sometimes just load it up only to sit inside the cockpit and admire how beautiful and realistic everything looks. I just want to take a bunch of screenshots and just explore the sheer beauty of everything. It's distracting, but in a good way.

Now only if a talented developer could make an addon that will let me simulate being a passenger, so that I can enjoy the breathtaking take offs and landings of sitting on a big commercial jet like a Boeing or Airbus! Best parts of flying to me are the takeoff and landings! I never really get to enjoy them in real time because I'm the pilot. I wish that part can be fully automated. (and I'm not talking about the lackluster and unintelligent built-in AI autopilot feature).

I can remember when Microsoft stopped development of FSX, and the confident claims that it meant the end of non-combat flight simming.  Now look where we are - and where we are going.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

The past month has also been bountiful for those who enjoy flying classic aircraft.

Big Radials Grumman Goose is really well done and a lot of fun. A fantastic bush plane.

Wing42's Boeing 247 is simply, in my opinion, one of the finest aircraft that's been developed for a flight simulator. It's pushed the envelope for realism across the board. I mean, a plane where you can hand crank the engine from the outside as part of getting it started? Who'd have ever thought!

This is so true. I have never enjoyed flying a GA aircraft as much as this iteration of the 310.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

Comparing the PMDG 737 release to the C310? You must be kidding me!

I can still hear the ringing of "It's a GAME, not a sim" in my head. I saw some pretty wild justifications for that too, ranging from xplane's faa certification to the user interface being too nice to use. I'm glad they've gone away, it's a lot nicer around the flight sim parts these days.

I agree, as much as I love P3D, the release of these new airliners has made me spend a lot more time in MSFS. All I’m missing now is GSX, Chaseplane and ActiveSky. I will not stop using P3D for the time being, but will spend more time with MSFS than I have in the past. Since FSLABS also announced they will bring their airplanes to MSFS, I’m very excited about the future of our hobby.

Ummm you must be kidding yourself, or are confused as usual... what, you think high fidelity birds are only possible in the realm of airliners and high fidelity GA aircraft are not as impactful to a flight sim lol?

Educating yourself on the Milviz C310 and the complex world of GA flying might be beneficial here.
