May 28, 20224 yr Has Jorg or any other ASOBO employee mentioned when the big "Weather Update" is coming that's supposed to give us new types of clouds and other fixes? I know SU10 is fixing the crosswind bug but besides that... Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory. The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune. There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you. It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

After decades of 2d weather, these days I rather take an inaccurate cloud type in volumetric 3d and excellent lighting over a correct 2d cloud sprite. Especially since the important part - airport weather - is mostly correct and realistic in MSFS by now. That said, thunder and lightning are not in an acceptable state in MSFS. MSFS real world weather depiction and accuracy is a throw of the dice. Using Foreflight to find interesting real time weather and then going there in P3d w/active sky usually works very well. Then if you have an add-on aircraft with excellent radar the immersion factor if very good. Until PMDG 737/DC6 and the C414 MSFS felt like at times participating in a cartoon though in recent months it has improved greatly.

May 28, 20224 yr Out of the last 20 or so flights I've taken in MSFS (including today), I haven't had any that weren't spot-on to the metars and reports - also, the transitions btwn fronts were much smoother. Yesterday I dodged hotspots of thunderstorms in the eastern US using the TBM radar. What was indicated on the screen was very close to what I saw outside the aircraft - this was very immersive and kept me on my toes. There were a couple flashes of lightning (first I've seen for a while), but there was no thunder - I would agree that they've dialed this back so far that it's basically nonexistent. Randall Rocke

Four flights today, and weather was spot on.

I really miss the flat clouds and the ones that spun when you looked out the window as you turned the aircraft. 😀 MSFS

May 29, 20224 yr Lightning is great, so great that it comes inside my PDMG B737 cockpit. I dont know is if a PDMG or ASOBO issue

May 29, 20224 yr Went into KLGA yesterday through some pretty beefy cells that were there in RL. Can't remember seeing any lightning or hearing any thunder in the sim but I've got COVID so my senses aren't 100% right now 😞 9800X3D | 5080 | 32GB | 2TB NVME | Dell Ultrasharp U3415W 34" | 3440 x 1440 60Hz
May 29, 20224 yr For the past two weeks the weather in the sim has been very close to the r/w conditions on every flight I have done. I just completed a flight from ATL to DEN in the PMDG 737. The conditions were mostly clear enroute except for a narrow line of showers over Kansas, shown on the NEXRAD display in Foreflight. The line of showers and clouds were there in MSFS live weather in exactly the right location. Winds aloft have been particularly good of late. The NWS upper wind charts at aviationweather.gov for 36,000 feet showed a slight easterly wind near Atlanta, becoming almost dead calm near Memphis, and becoming southwesterly at 75 knots going into Colorado, and that is exactly what I got in the sim. June 3, 20224 yr A couple of days ago I loaded up at KDCA. I checked ForeFlight and it showed a really localised thunderstorm just over D.C. It loaded me into the Fenix A320 with rain pouring on the windows and the Washington Monument barely visible — plus some pretty intense thunder and lightning. By the time I was ready to depart the storm had moved to the east, making a beautiful backdrop behind the city. The apron was drying in the heat as I taxied out. Compared to ForeFlight’s radar I think the storm in MSFS cleared away maybe 10-15 minutes early but I’m not complaining. It was awesome compared to early iterations of the live weather.
