I wonder how many of the older simmers are or were licensed pilots IRL. I had my CMSEL with IFR rating long before I started simming. When I stopped flying (medical) I got into simming just to keep my skills up.

From that perspective my first flight sim was wandering around my neighbourhood with die cast airplane flying “long haul” from my house to one block over

Strombecker wood kit of a Boeing 'China Clipper' followed by other Strombecker kits after that.

Rubber band launched balsa gliders.

During WW2 paper paste together cutouts with a penny in the nose for balance.  They flew pretty well if you had a hill or easy to climb treetop to launch them from.

The empty lot at the end of Larkin Street overlooking the bay and Alcatraz was a perfect spot.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Went as far as a commercial rating before the girls got to high school and the money dried up.

First soloed in a Luscombe 8E on floats.

I'm 62 and simulate since Sublogic FS2 on Atari

When was this taken? I'm curious if they have specific info on xbox users and MSFS also. Where do Xbox MSFS users post?

Btw, my first flight sim was Spectrum Holobyte's Falcon AT, but I'm not sure if that counts as a flight sim.

Not really, just joking. When I first saw the thread I thought it was a bit hilarious, but then I realized that it could interesting.

I'm 67 and simming since the first version of Microsoft back in the early '80s, and also used the SubLogic simulator.

First demo flight in 1957. Got my license in 1958 (Del Monte Aviation - KMRY). Like you, a medical glitch stopped all that some years ago. And I also got into simming just because I love the art of flying. Not all that eye-candy stuff though. It's the flying part I'm interested in. God, I do miss the real thing though. At the wet rate for even a C172 couldn't afford it now. But I'll always have the memories. Sigh..........

Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. Klaatu barada nickto.

Began flying in '71 with PPL in '72.  Was going to go thru the slate of commercial, multi, IFR, etc. when a career change and marriage took me out of flying going into the 80's.  After that the affordability just wasn't there for me anymore (or the time to put into it).

I never lost my love for it - the advent of computers and even the first sims were like manna from heaven for me as I really enjoyed IFR procedures and I was able to practice them virtually.

Majority younger people I have met  were summing  before getting pilot certificate. But folks who   got their pilot certificates in 60th, 70th and 80th definitely didn't have much summing options. Right now however is like a golden time for simmers. Sims matured so much since days of Sublogic ATP!
