What AI Traffic Solution?

Featured Replies

Currently I'm running AIG/MSFS Live Traffic. I only wish, I would not see any Asobo, XBox or Windows liveries at small GA a/c and what's a bit more annoying, seeing air liners from Papua, Poland or South Africa at mid-sized regional airports in California.

That happens either because AIG doesn't have a livery for that aircraft yet, or it's a regional airline that flies for multiple airlines, so there's no way to match the livery accurately.

Seems to me there is a market for both products, and probably others that come somewhere in between. Lots of folks in the world equals lots of differing personal requirements. The problem is everyone seems to think their personal requirements is representative of the majority. Human nature I suppose.

We could also say that MS/Asobo doesn't handle ai traffic very well?

It's the airlines themselves. Livery matching is based off airline code, but the regional airlines use the same code no matter what livery they're flying under.

For example, SkyWest does flights for Delta Connection, United Express and American Eagle, but all their flights are done under the 'SKW' airline code, no matter what airline the flight is for.

Jorg says they have several licensed AI ready models, but the trouble is getting permission from the various airlines to use their liveries. It isn't as easy as throwing money at the airline.

Just Flight appears to be doing it, why can’t MS?

JustFlight probably didn't ask for permission from the airlines.

Microsoft is a big company, airlines would be more likely to go after them than a small (by comparison) addon developer.

For those of you bickering about Simple Traffic vs AIG… you need to consider that different people have different priorities

You are 100% correct, I just think it's important for users who really DON'T know the difference but are looking for info that the two products are completely different sandboxes. It's  like users comparing the default A320N to the Fenix A320.

If that was the case then why not release them with the stock (albeit crummy) liveries?

When you know the difference of who's supposed to be at the airport and in what type it makes a HUGE difference.

For starters Dave, I'm not a student of what airlines will be at specific airports and I use a large set of airports.  But more importantly for me is setting up my flight, then executing as perfectly as possible so this is where I spend my time and focus.  Very often liveries at specific airports are highly plausible in ST.  I will notice a livery essentially thru my peripheral vision--IOW, I don't stare at it to determine if it's appropriate for the airport I'm in--I barely notice it, and it looks highly plausible. When I was flying for Air Canada in APL2, I always saw Canadian airlines at the airports I was at in Canada.  Same same in other global routes.  So its FAR from random, though yes you still get the occasional total mismatch.  It solves a lot of default MSFS and is no fuss, no muss, plug and play operation.  The generic models may perhaps get changed some day and I'm happy to wait til then.  If that does not happen over the next year or two I may look at robust offerings from 3rd parties then.  If I could have the total simplicity of ST in AIG this would be worth the change.

I reckon that’s a wonderful way to end this thread 🙂

That's not what I meant. I can live with it. But seeing a Polish LOT airliner at CYCD Nanaimo is much more confusing. There is no such AIG LOT flight plan to CYCD, so it must be the internal MSFS ai "logic" which is placing it there.

It comes down to basic paying attention and situational awareness. The simple one off's irl and pilots are often all over it, "who's that?", "what are they doing here?" It just reinforces the old adage, ignorance is bliss. Just because you don't care what you see for traffic at airports, doesn't mean that its good because it's just there.

FSLTL won't take long anymore. That's all I can and will say about it....

Interesting... I thought about buying ST because I want a simple solution. I just want to get rid of the default liveries and get a bit more realistic ones on the airports I visit. And ST seems to be perfect for that. I have read about AIG but even though I don't really know what it is and does the work that it apparently needs has stopped me from investigating it further. But now you mention FSLTL... I did a quick search and found an article from december 2021 saying it's almost ready to be released and it would be free. But... clearly it still hasn't been released and a post in this topic seems to indicate it won't be free anymore...?

Should I wait for FSLTL or get ST? FSLTL seems to be more like AIG but easier to use...? Or...? A bit more up to date info would be appreciated! 😉

Well I mean, AIG is free if you want an interim solution. It just also happens to be very good 😄
