Why are simmers so concerned about frames ???

I aim for 60 minimum. The fluidness of that is good. 30? No thanks! Rather have lower settings than 30 FPS...

I am quite happy with 30FPS. Thats an image every 33mS, plenty fast enough for a smooth image for me but others may prefer more. I know that some people are more sensitive to frame rates than others and that may explain why some need 60 or more.

glad we are not birds:

budgerigars and chickens have flicker or light pulse cycles per second thresholds of more than 100 light pulse cycles per second. would have to wait for DLSS 4 then.

Why?

The interesting question for me is not why some people are interested in pursuing higher framerates, but rather, why others seem so insistent (this subject reappears like clockwork) that others not pay attention to framerates, apparently either to claim a superior viewpoint, or to enjoin others to or join them in their happy disregard.

They are waiting to see when you can get 1000FPS in MSFS then they know it`s ready for prime time.🤣

Not allowed on the forums apparently.

Just look at the wind gusts thread. Those that are happy with atmospheric representation don't want Asobo to provide *an optional user-controlled setting* for those who aren't.
Apparently, everything must result in a binary conclusion.

It's a very selfish attitude of 'Well, I'm happy with how things are. You should be too'.

Same .. I aim for 50. Everyone has their happy place for satisfaction. If locked at 30 works for people .. great .

I only fly airline type flights and the only place i will tolerate a momentary fall in framerates to the low 30's  upper 20's is if i am on final at a major airport ( KORD/EGLL/KJFK) and it better not have any stutters when falling to those lower frames. Apart from that i expect the sim to be giving me 45-50 fps with excellent "frame pacing" throughout the flight.

There are three methods (RTSS/in game Vsync/Radeon Chill aka driver based lock)  to lock the frames and i have tested all three before settling on the one that allows the frames to rise to the  fps lock and fall to the lower 30's without injecting any overhead and potentially causing frametime spikes (stutters).

Some people care only about the frames being high/ Others exclusively about the smoothness and go for a lower lock .. I prefer a range with a good balance and no spikes.

There's no wrong way to go about it

I just did some trimming of my MSFS install, and finally decided to delete AIG.

A steady 45fps with max settings at Boston Logan was the result, even with all the craziness going on there, which is a guarantee of 60's or more at any place less substantial, and easy 80's with a drop, down to high-end settings.

Enough for comfortable VR, which is my personal goal.

I guess if you have PCs with the latest, greatest and most expensive hardware inside them, framerates are a kind of "badge of honour". The problem with this is that you will end up always wanting higher and higher framerates. For those of us who do not have gold reserves in the basement, being able to accept lower framerates enables us to run our flight simulators (or any other games for that matter) at higher detail levels than we would do if we were obsessed with 60fps and beyond.

Speaking on frames... if I use Riva Tuner to lock my frames to 30 do I use the sim and place it at 50% monitor? Plus in NVidia control panel so I set vertical sync to Use 3D applications settings? I currently have it set like this

NVidia Control Panel: max frame rate turned off, Gsync monitor enabled, Use 3d application

In the Sim: Vsync on, 50% monitor refresh

Riva Tuner: frames locked at 30

Want to make sure Im not duplicating some settings.

Oh Noel, I bet you never experienced a high refresh monitor.
But arguing with the technical expert board here - that is nonsense.

Because claiming having a steady 30 FPS is better than having a steady 60 FPS is just - like Noel says - goofy nonsense.

I don’t care if he limits to 30, 15 or 5 FPS. But getting 30 FPS in a modern game with a high end GPU and processor is just - meh.

I can accept if someone says „I can’t see a difference between 60 and 120 Hz“. But if someone doesn’t see the difference between 30 and 60 FPS - he should contact a doctor.

But as I learned that most people here get pension - well. I am not surprised.
