October 9, 20223 yr Free with ads https://youtu.be/rFOkCEdEaQU The Day The Earth Stood Still depicts the arrival of an alien dignitary, Klaatu (Michael Rennie), who has come to earth with his deadly robot, Gort (Lock Martin), to deliver the message that earthlings must stop warring among themselves--or else. After being shot at by military guards, Klaatu is brought to a Washington, D.C. hospital, where he begs a sympathetic but frank Major White (Robert Osterloh) to gather all the world's leaders so he can tell them more specifically what he has come to warn them about. Losing patience, Klaatu slips into the human world, adapting a false identity and living at a boarding house where he meets a smart woman with a conscience and her inquisitive son. Both mother and son soon find themselves embroiled in the complex mystery of Klaatu, his message and the government's witch hunt for the alien. Seen by many as a political, religious and humanitarian effort, the film is based on Harry Bates' story, "Farewell to the Master." Edited October 9, 20223 yr by HiFlyer We are all connected..... October 9, 20223 yr Just watched it on TCM this evening. Finally found out what Klaatu barada nikto means...'Klaatu has important information about your car's warrantee'. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
October 9, 20223 yr Klaatu was not a good being. A swine! 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
October 9, 20223 yr The Day The Earth Stood Still Always been one of my all time favorites. I quite liked the remake too, with Keanu.

October 9, 20223 yr In addition to TDTESS, another classic sci-fi movie from the mid 50's, This Island Earth, may not be as well known, but worth watching again.

A mailer in your mailbox and two solicitation calls every day plus a half dozen commercials while watching TV in the evening isn't enough. Noel Edited October 9, 20223 yr by birdguy I have a problem with names... The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
October 9, 20223 yr Moderator I think back before that there was Destination Moon. Full color and great effects for the time - storyline was so-so.. To me, there wre to main classics - Forbidden Planet and the original The Thing. They were so well written that you could listen to just the sound track and experience the whole movie. When it first hit the screens I watched it three days in a row. As far as the original of The Thing...I was 10 years old when it was released and after watching it I couldn't sleep for two days 🙂. Ya know Charlie, a lot of tricky things happen with your memory when you get to be my age. I just fixed the post with the edit tab. I do it so often now it doesn't embarrass me anymore. No apology. Just another 'Oh Well'. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
October 9, 20223 yr I agree both of those I remember. I was around 12 or so and scared to death on both of them. "The Thing" was the worse since I had my eyes shut most of the time. They sure don't make them like they use too.
