This has been brought up. Not impossible, but very involved due to the rendering pipeline needed. They haven’t said no. But they have said “unlikely”.

Damage Model and Physics / Aerodynamics:

Simulators like DCS World and IL-2, more like IL-2, have always called my attention to the detail they put into damage modelling.

A civil flightsim doesn't have to model damage cause by weapons, but it should be great to have flying with less parts of your aircraft, like when in a semi-elevator or a broken rudder, an asymmetric flap / slat / aileron deployment situ, etc...

Some of these damages are "survivable".

I particularly admire the way for instance IL2 simulates the loss of an horizontal empennage asymmetrically, a jagged aileron or flap, etc... It's tricky to RTB under such circumstances.

I'd like to see an X-Plane MarketPlace. Like most folks, I've spent WAY more on addons than on the sim itself. I'd rather buy from LR and know that some of that $$ is going back into the sim itself. And I do appreciate the convenience of centralized addon updates & management.

Shorter term, I'd like to just let them fix/flesh out all the new features of v12.

Longer term, I'm liking the focus on increasing the fidelity of the Default avionics that seems to be a big push for MSFS 2023. The v12 Defaults are much improved over v11, and already in a good place. But I do believe if 3rd Party Devs didn't have to spend time re-creating/customizing/enhancing industry standard IRL avionics packages, it would help entice more devs to come to X-Plane, as well as allow all devs to make more addons, or spend time enhancing other systems instead of re-inventing the wheel for every Garmin / Collins Pro Line / et al equipped add-on

If the streaming ortho can't be worked out, how about expanding the Scenery Gateway for such things? E.g., still community developed (a la X-Europe, V-States, etc.), but held to certain standards for compatibility, "synergy" and ease of install?

Multi-Cockpit

Multi-Player

And I'll probably take heat for this, but it'd be great to have support for scripted "missions" & bush trips. I spend a good bit of time (and some $$) on such things in MSFS. They encompass things from simple sightseeing tours, complex navigation exercises, scenarios like MedEvac to humanitarian aid, to multi-step "flight training" programs, etc.

It might seem trivial or non-serious, but even tho I'd rather fly in X-Plane, I've had far more varied & interesting experiences in MSFS, esp in regards getting out of my comfort zone.

I have some news to share. I actually decided to email Austin directly last night and shared my requested feature list for the year 2023. Not surprisingly he replied back(he always does, he is awesome 😎).

- He said that something like regional accurate procedural autogen is in the plan but will take more than a year to do the way he wants it done.

- Accurate snow coverage is for sure coming

- light pollution at night is coming

- visible rain bands are coming

- Ray tracing will probably not happen in the near future

I’ve had to read through all pages in this topic due to a report being submitted.

The only thing I can see is someone almost inviting trollers to comment with links to discussion in other topics. I despair.

I'm certain XP12 will improve with time. I trust LR team. Too bad about ray tracing not happening. Woulda been nice.

I just hope they fix the turbulence model very soon (which is terrible atm) and keep improving the weather engine.

The things you mention are possible in a certain civil flightsim (although not in all sims). I will demonstrate it sometime later (partly did already).

Pretty much all of those failures are possible in X-Plane. Although in some cases the 3d model of the aircraft will not show the part missing.

I thought I could modify the first post but I was wrong so I'll put my list in here, thanks for all that have contributed so far

  • Better flap aerodynamics, allowing for proper negative flap settings
  • Proper troposphere modelling for upper flight levels

Native persistence support : When sim crashes, or electricity loss, cat hits the power button, there needs to be a way to resume flight in any aircraft. This is currently done through custom coding in many aircrafts but having a built in library/API to save all the transient variable that will allow developers to implement this feature easily in aircraft will be ideal.

Facades :The art library in WED particularly facades needs a lot of love.  There is no way to build angle roof, arc (vertically), etc. Height doesn't work in many facades.  Investment in this area is badly needed so all the scenery designer will have a more things in their tool kit. This will help Simheaven to be able to represent OSM objects better in the sim

Building Footprint : A giant corporation (not to be named for trolling reason) made over 1 billion building data around the world open source under ODbL . I reviewed it and didn't find anything in the license agreement that will prevent LR from using it. Simheaven already uses this.  Having this data implemented in the sim will go a long way.  Alternatively LR should just invest on Simheaven / GlobalForest project to bring up quality and make those as part of default XP12.

3rd Party Developer Help : There are wonderful 3rd party projects that actually defines XP!  Zibo comes to mind.  However there is another promising project called AutoOrtho that streams Ortho on the fly.  The author is stuck with XP tech limitation to make this seamless.  Investing on the needs of 3rd party can elevate XP to the next level.

VR Tablet :   Give us a configuration option to remove the default tablet that nobody I know uses..

Respectable job there, peroni.  I'll address a few.

textures with proper seasonal variation.

This is already in XP12.  However, it's shader based.  Seasons are fully implemented.

18 minutes ago, peroni said:

AFAIK, this is already in.  It was in since I first came in to X-Plane.  If Austin has taken it out of XP12, I'd be surprised, but I can't confirm it.

18 minutes ago, peroni said:

This is up to the aircraft author.

18 minutes ago, peroni said:

Snow and ice coverage and accumulation both on aircraft and on terrain

Snow accumulation on the aircraft will destroy fps.  Also, every aircraft is different, and it's up to the aircraft creator to determine where exactly the snow and rain will accumulate.  Rain can't just fall onto an existing aircraft without telling the rain where the aircraft is.  I've even asked about this when we first did the TBM.  The person I work with told me it would take up too much performance for something that isn't seen too often.  Unlikely to happen.

18 minutes ago, peroni said:

DLSS Support

This is only compatible with RTX GPU's.  I suppose they could include it, but like I said in an earlier post, it requires a completely new render pipeline.

18 minutes ago, peroni said:

Damage Model and Physics / Aerodynamics improvements

Already included.  As far as improvements, Austin will definitely want specifics and any math associated with it.  Otherwise he just refuses to look.

18 minutes ago, peroni said:

Laminar has shown no interest in this, whatsoever.  They're happy to let independent publishers sell 3rd party add ons.

18 minutes ago, peroni said:

Multiplayer

Included in the SDK.

18 minutes ago, peroni said:

Scripted missions and bush trips

I can't see Laminar doing this.  It's "gimmicky", and whereas there are people who enjoy it, it's not really something Laminar would be interested in.  But it's a suggestion I could throw in there.

I've spoken about this to someone who knows more about the logistics around it.  Unless something has been done behind the scenes, this is, very likely, illegal if Laminar take it on board.  Personally, I would love it.  I have more information on the legalities, but this isn't the place to discuss those things.
