I agree - though are you using OXR at all?  I've found using 150% render in OXR but using dlss is a lot nicer than 100 render and TAA.  better fps and a slight sharpness increase.

Can you send me a link to the app and video of how to properly setup OpenXR.  I tried to set it up before but it never really worked or showed any improvement.  Looks like the latest version and a proper setup is what I need.

I will but maybe DLSS does not work on a 20xx card?  I know it does on 30xx and up.  Does it work for you?  Or maybe it's the DLSS on my 4080 card that makes it work the tradeoff.  I read older DLSS is super blurry

DLSS works but the displays are blurry and overall a downgrade from TAA.

Looks like the consensus is a high end VR headset then. Ok, so which one?! G2 to me, was mediocre. Low sweet spot. Blurry edges, no colour. Very bland.

I guess I am the outlier as someone who owns the Brunner and knowing you have a good GSync monitor already.  I would say Brunner all day long but I also have an MCP, EFIS, Comms, Transponder plus a Logitech G13 with all my ATC/GSX commands pre-mapped so for me the interaction with all of my Hardware and the feel of the Brunner is a more complete experience for me than VR.

To the contrary both my Racing Sim and my Flight Sim are both 49inch ultrawide screens opposed to VR specifically for the HW control aspect.  Similarly I do a lot of long haul flights, that's my go to use case for flight simming and sitting there in a headset for a few hours at a time gives me horrible headaches.  I'm ok for short bursts of 30 minutes or so but after that my head hurts...

So I would personally vote Brunner... A good FFB yoke is a game changer.

There is absolutely no question if you want the best. It’s the Varjo Aero. It’s two years ahead of anything else right now. The G2 is to Varjo as base FSX lighting is to MS2020 lighting.  It’s World class vs amateur.

This is a good point for anyone new to VR to consider.  @Ianrivaldosmith, have you had the chance to try flying in VR before? I find with my headset, I can also only last 30-60 minutes or so before I start to get dizzy, generally uncomfortable etc.  I could never use it on anything more than a short, sightseeing flight which is partially why it is rarely used.

There’s a wide spectrum of people’s tolerances so this may or may not be an issue for you.  At the other end of the spectrum my dad puked after about five minutes.

All that to say, if you haven’t tried VR in flightsim yet and could, it would be a good thing to do before buying if possible.

I had a G2 yes, it gave me headaches because of the small sweet spot, and the poor colours. Plus I wear glasses/contact lenses. It felt like I’d forgotten to put them on…. I was kinda hoping newer technology would have eradicated some of that now (this was 2 Yeats ago).

I switched from a Saitek yoke/pedal to the Yoko+ from Virtualfly about two years ago, and got the Quest 2 (more of a low-end VR headset) one year ago. The Yoko+ is not the Brunner, but still a very nice yoke, and I really loved the switch. It is much easier to make precise adjustments, so a good yoke is definitely a plus.

However, even the humble Quest 2 was a total game changer for me, the amount of immersion in VR is simply astonishing. And that is despite the fact that the world is a little blurry, a bit like I forgot to wear my glasses. I still fly 2D occasionally with jets and larger turboprops, but the situational awareness with a VR headset is so much better that I use it exclusively with GA planes and helicopters in particular.

So, from the point of view of what gives you the bigger jump in experience, it would be VR, but there is a catch. Not everyone is comfortable using a VR headset, and some get motion sickness. That was the reason why I got a low-end VR headset: I got motion sickness with TrackIR and wasn't sure if VR even works for me. I couldn't borrow one where I live, so I bought a cheap VR set that could be passed on in case it didn't work. For me, luckily, VR works great. I may get a little bit of motion sickness after flying for more than an hour, in particular if I take off and land a helicopter repeatedly. However, most of the time I feel just fine.

So, VR is the greater jump in experience, but it is also a little risky, depending on how you react. One can borrow VR headsets at many places. If you can do that, I would first try that before investing a significant amount of money in a high-end headset.

OpenXR really was night and day for me, improved the performance a lot. I also use the "OpenComposite" software to force my headset to use OpenXR runtime. And if you havent done already, stop the "holographic Shell"  prosess from running. Tought it was snakeoil, but tried it a few days ago, all my stutter just vanished, smooth as silk. Can play on settings I could just dream about before..

Also if you switch between vr and 2d, I found lowering my 2d settings to match my VR settings helped to remove performance issues when switching back and forth...

I planned to buy a 4090, but after doing all the things above, I can still manage my 3080ti until the gtx5000 series arrive..

For me the choice is obvious since I am definitely a VR person. But I also have other reasons. Mainly it's the fact that the Yoke can only be used for One Singular purpose, whereas the VR headset has multiple uses. To me that offers more value for money.

Yeah, if I already had an Alpha I'd go VR. It really is a game changer.  When you do upgrade yokes, consider the Fulcrum One. It's a lot less expensive than the Brunner, but it's extremely well-built. I saw no need to spend the extra money.

About the sweetspot, the video about the G2 on the MRTV youtube channel explains about it. Summary is that sweetspot is actually very good, but on the first version of the headset, the "foam" (the soft part in contact with your face) was preventing some people from getting their eyes close to the lenses enough, leading to small sweetspot. This problem could be solved by using the FrankenFOV (if I'm not mistaken) alternative foam, or to switch to the second version of the G2, which had an updated foam which made the alternative mod useless.
