My i9-9900k is hurting big time now. if you want to push MSFS limits , you will need the 4080-4090 series to activate frame generation. You will have great results with 3080 also but with some limitations ( depends of how much you want push terrain level detail etc). "Could Intel catch up new gen?" not within the next 12 months, only after they switch to 5 nm production process. they had to cancel Meteor Lake and other future plans for a reason: not competitive against AMD and NVidia. hard to believe but truth be told: check out "moore's law is dead" channel on youtube. they are desperately trying to beat their poor old 10 nm technology, which they call Intel 7 😉 to insane clock speeds (> 6.0 GHz) with some Raptor Lake refreshes later this year trying to compete with AMDs which perform better in most games at lower clock speeds. I think many of those unsuspecting Intel Raptor Lake users will be disappointed when they find out how it is throttling down because it can not maintain those extreme clocks on all cores, (heat / cooling issues). As discussed, frame generation makes a WORLD of difference. That’s great for 2D, and I’d have already jumped if I wasn’t so invested in VR. At this point, another 6 months and the 5 series GPUs will probably be releasing. I’m wondering what the better long term upgrade would be, especially for VR. If the 7950x3D can provide upwards of 60 FPS in CPU limited scenarios, then it’s a great upgrade, ahead of the GPU. Most of the time, in 2D I’ll get CPU limited with my 3090 only working at ~60%. When you make an upgrade to 4090 or 4080 with frame generation enabled, you will not be limited on CPU. Believe me even with new AMD cpu you will be limited with out frame generation,. So its not just a GPU upgrade. In a few words and final conclusion ( at least on my setup) on MSFS: Frame generation for now is the only new technology that allows you to push the limits ( cpu & gpu) Edited March 6, 20233 yr by Seth2021 Intel Core i9-13900K | ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 4090 GAMING OC 24GB | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | DDR5 64GB 6000-30 Trident Z5 RGB | Corsair ICUE H170i Elite Capellix RGB | Corsair 7000D Airflow ASUS ROG Thor Platinum II 1200 Watt | Samsung SSD 990 Pro NVMe M.2 2TB & 1TB | Alienware AW3423DW | Asus ROG Swift PG279Q 27" Gaming Monitor | VKB-Sim Gladiator Mk.II | Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant Airbus Edition

I am in a similar situation with an 8800K and a 3080ti. But even so I am looking at a 4090 in my near future -- it's that good -- runs cooler than my 3080ti, and Frame Generation has no negatives in MSFS I'm told. I will also be upgrading the rest of the machine...but those specs are To Be Determined. In your case if the 4090 is too expensive, there is the 4080 and 4070ti. 4070ti is really cut-down though, and outside of Frame Gen may only be on a par with your non-ti 3080. Also if you run other apps or games that don't behave with Frame Gen (there are some games which have artifacting with FG on, but I've seen no reports of this with MSFS) then that's a consideration also. And @V1ROTA7E where did you hear about nvidia 5-gen being out in 6 months? I'd guess at least a year away. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
