March 2, 20233 yr I have an Intel PC so not sure building a PC based on the AM4 makes a lot of sense. But if I already had an AM4 upgrading to the 5800x3D CPU is a no brainer. In my case I already have another PC I use for sim racing, so things are a bit murkier. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

March 2, 20233 yr Since I just bought a 5800X3D I will hijack this thread to promote what a smart person I was to get a cheap upgrade instead of building a new rig. Just kidding. Anyway, 5800X3D + RTX 4080 = Winning combo. Inibuilds A310, at the gate in JFK, Rain, Everything Ultra, both LOD 200, 3440x1440, VSync on, G-Sync on, TAA + Frame Gen On = 45-55 FPS and completely smooth both in cockpit and outside view with TrackIR. Aerosoft Twin Otter at JFK runway, Rain, Everything Ultra, both LOD 200, 3440x1440, VSync on, G-Sync on, TAA + Frame Gen On = 75 FPS (capped in NCP) and completely smooth of course with TrackIR. Mainthread limited both times. Some interesting observations, the first scenario with the A310 made my RTX 4080 go up to 76C which is a record high so far. It also launched my R7 5800X3D up to 91C after about 10 minutes (it's designed to go to 90C and then throttle itself, performance depends on your AIO/Cooler capacity). Also my VRAM usage peaked at 15927 MB on my 16 GB 4080. It didn't cause any issues, there was some light stutter a millisecond couple of times but nothing out of the ordinary. It's interesting to see the hardware being utilized 100%, it's quite the improvement since the early days of FS 2020. March 2, 20233 yr I was hoping the 7950X3D would be a bit better. I'm glad I held off buying a new mobo/ram combo before seeing reviews. I think I'll stick with the 5800X3D for the time being. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers

March 2, 20233 yr I’m using 10700k with 4090 now. with 7950x3d at 4k gpu will be bottleneck, so no need to buy 7950x3d for the time being for 4k users. When the new gen gpu’s which is totally 4k capable will be released in a few years then we can buy better CPU’s. So I will wait for 7800x3d and than I will decide to buy either 7800x3d or 5800x3d. But, what if cpu limited scenarios with lots of ai traffic, tlod 400, fenix, jfk, heavy weather? Have these ever been tested with this cpu? Edited March 2, 20233 yr by spitzer45 C. March 2, 20233 yr With a 10900k (5.1ghz) and a 4080 I’m rarely GPU limited at 4K. Really only if I’m flying in the middle of nowhere. Big cities and AI traffic definitely leave me CPU limited so I imagine I’d see a nice boost with one of these CPUs. March 2, 20233 yr Ill probably update my 5900X to the 5800X 3D and the 3060TI to a 4070TI in the near future. Maxed with both the CPU /GPU currently with fps in the 70s. Should save a pile of $$ by not going to the 7950X 3D sp Edited March 2, 20233 yr by Sky_Pilot071
March 2, 20233 yr Commercial Member A couple of videos from a user of the 7950X vs. the 7950X3D on a payware airport w/ the Fenix. https://youtu.be/wUjXsoG4xkk https://youtu.be/xSWO4dSfag4 A fairly decent uplift of 20fps or so, with a 4090 and more than 1080p, so there are some gains to be had. Definitely have one of these chips on order myself! 😄 Aamir Thacker

March 2, 20233 yr Thanks! I find it hard to find comparisons with “older” hardware like mine, great to see. Yep, without FG it would have been a very low. But it was a complex aircraft in complex scenery with all of Manhattan in view, rainy weather with sun low on the horizon, all the reflections, refractions and shadows, the aircraft in turn-around mode with APU running and so on. I could sit in the cockpit and look around with TrackIR completely smooth, same in Showcase view outside. A good experience in my book. Oh, and it was in 3440x1440 but with 135% scale so 4644x1944 rendered resolution. To be honest, before Frame Gen I wouldn't even give that scenario a go because I know it would have made my rig beg for mercy. But with the 4080 and now 5800X3D, it's really a smooth and great experience.
