That would be a nice surprise

Neumann (I think) has alluded to forthcoming "surprises". Wouldn't it be a nice one if the sim started to use The First 30 cm HD Global Imagery Basemap (maxar.com) everywhere ? Seamless, color-homogenised, cloud-free.  For the metric-challenged 30 cm are 11.8 inches.

We're in an age when big jumps can happen quickly.  I would not be in the slightest surprised if n' when LM/LR adopts this and suddenly MSFS is lapsed in the blink of an update.   At this point in time MSFS is the clear winner for me but as I say that could change rather quickly.

It would be nice.
That said, one of the "surprises" was announcing MS/Asobo attending this year's FSExpo.
I'm not getting my hopes up about the other forthcoming "surprises" in the roadmap. That way, I'll be genuinely surprised if something I like is revealed.

Anyway, don't you think that Maxar's colour scheme looks awfully similar to LM's P3Dv5+...?

AMD Ryzen 5800X3D; MSI RTX 3080 Ti ; 32GB Corsair 3200 MHz; ASUS VG35VQ 35" (3440 x 1440)
Fulcrum One yoke; Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack Airbus edition; MFG Crosswind rudder pedals; miniCockpit FCU; CPFlight MCP 737; Logitech FIP x3; TrackIR

MSFS; Fenix A320; A2A PA-24; HPG H145; PMDG 737-600; AIG; RealTraffic; PSXTraffic; FSiPanel; REX AccuSeason Adv; FSDT GSX Pro; FS2Crew RAAS Pro; FS-ATC Chatter

A "surprise" would be Asobo working on areas where their sim is the weakest, like broken takeoff and landing flight dynamics, lack of access to real meteorological data needed for WXR, AI traffic, stutters, etc.

Well if this is the kind of surprise to be expected, then the bar is set really low 😄 !

I don't have P3Dv5 to compare the respective palettes of its landclass and Maxar sat imagery.

Yup, all things that have disappeared under the carpet and seem to get less and less traction.

You're thinking way ahead of where I was... I'm just going with the respective brand colours 😅

Good catch. If we could have MAXAR + MSFS clouds in P3D, I would leave MSFS without a second thought.

I think you mean an update to the Tom Cruise maverick gimmick: now with an MSFS aviator livery. there is hope.

Well, multiple things can happen in parallel given the size of the MS/Asobo team. Also FWIW, in terms of ground handling the more extensive rework of it (which includes landing/takeoff dynamics too per what they've said before) is currently underway per the latest dev stream, with no timeline given as of now for when it'll be released, according to what Seb said here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1772471519?t=00h54m21s

We have had photo scenery options for P3D for a long time... The problem was always the look from up close.

Blackshark AI has transformed the landscape and autogen, which I think you would miss. 🙂

Another thread that gives me the opportunity to vent my now biggest frustration about this sim (I'll keep doing this until it is fixed 😁). It would be a (very nice) surprise if we would get QNH in mlilibar where necessary instead of only in Hg.

Other than that, I also do like that Maxar thingy.

Cheers, Bert

30cm is ZL19 which is more coarsely than MSFS in many places. Checking at the first two random places in two countries I can clearly see the railway ties which require a resolution of less than 30cm. Also for MSFS, the tiles have been made seamless and color-homogised.
