April 5, 20233 yr I give, what is the cause for the "melted" appearance when PG isn't working as intended? My hunch is it must be on the server side--there must be an algorithm that says, "trim allocated resources for PG when X happens (eg, when demand on the server exceeds capacity to deliver). TBH on or off really has so little impact on the total experience for me fortunately. Right now it's off, but not long ago it was on for many months. I don't sense any appreciable performance impact from PG being on, or off. April 5, 20233 yr As I've written before, PG is not only cities. It's also higher ground texture resolution and higher terrain mesh resolution. By turning off PG because the cities look bad, you also turn off the other two. I ignore places with bad PG.

This much harder to do when PG abuts an airport as with NZWN - it is quit horrible and means you have to turn off PG when flying in NZ with the big jets. A pity because PG of NZ CBD areas is very good but the you are not at ground level as is the case with an airport. Bruce Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." April 6, 20233 yr I like PG off. My internet connection isn't strong enough for it so it always looks bad for me.

My internet connection is strong enough (both download and upload are always above 900 Mbps) but still PG looks awful... Just like the infamous bandwidth messages the bad performance of PG has nothing to do with the internet connection (imho) but with either the bad servers or the bad data.

April 7, 20233 yr it depends how high you Lod setting is the further away and faster it will make the cities look better. But why sydney and other cities are way better then others...... April 8, 20233 yr I leave PG on. Everybody must choose. If you live in a PG city, go to your house (use Ctl-V to past google maps coordinates for street address into Search on the MSFS map page). PG on: it looks like your house. PG off: it looks nothing at all like your house, not even close. PG off is a fantasy world. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. April 8, 20233 yr PG off is fantasy but it often looks nicer. I would rather have more reality that doesn't look so nice. But not everyone agrees with that opinion. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. April 8, 20233 yr It's hard giving up the higher realism you get with PG on but I also finally decided to leave it off all the time. Even at about 2500 feet, with PG on the whole landscape tends to take on a much darker appearance. And for me at least it looks bad. If I'm in a helicopter at around 1000 feet it's not only dark but the melted-building effect is much more obvious. The sim still looks very good with PG off.
