Either way, I disagree - I see lots of positive references to many popular youtubers in our threads. AvAngel, Frugal just to throw out a few. Personally I subscribe to about 20 different ones for varying information. Like anything else there are always those who don't match up but by and large I believe many youtubers are accepted here quite well. RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160

June 28, 20232 yr Whilst some people dis yourubers, most of us find many of them quite helpful and entertaining. Two of my favouries are Overkill and Mark at Simhanger. There are many others, but I seem to watch these two quite regularly. Obsidianant is another who springs to mind with a few msfs videos on his channel. The community, like literally every other community on the planet is full of people who don't want their time wasted nor getting every personal YouTube channel pushed on them, as it's essentially advertisement or blatant self-promotion. Videos which has zero value as they contain no new information, just another mediator of already available information. This sort of stuff is banned on a lot of forums and in various communities because people find it annoying. On a lot of core Reddit subs it's also a prohibited practice, because every person and their dog these days are trying to push their two-bit channel. I find Avsim to be a lot more open to YouTubers in general, because we're in a niche community and there's lots of smaller YouTube channels being posted from people with great knowledge, especially from pilots or other professionals in the industry we're trying to simulate. However, that does not mean you blindly accept and open the floodgates for every single video posted, least of all these low-hanging fruit videos of just retreading news and information we've had several times over in the past week, aimed at their own core subscriber base. June 28, 20232 yr What's good is stuff like 737NGDriver doing reviews and explaining things from a real world perspective, like testing the WT787 throughout the beta cycle as I don't have the premium deluxe version. Of course he's doing tutorials on flying too. But videos for news? No thanks, I can read, and that's much faster than listening to someone talking who is likely extending the video beyond what's necessary anyway to boost view times and make it more relevant to the YT algorithm to get more views. Besides, the clickbait titles and thumbnails these days are outright repulsive to me. Edited June 28, 20232 yr by Nixoq

It’s a long way between black and white with a lot of grey tones. In the end everyone needs to decide on your own if you want to give clicks to people in the first group. I’m personally very cautious with those videos that claim to have some secret information about new products and stuff. Mostly it’s waste of time. Never seen a video getting any new info in that. It’s just clickbait. Edited June 28, 20232 yr by AGuther

I think it depends on the intended audience. A lot of flightsim related videos, especially with the popularity of MSFS, are now created by/for people that may or may not (most likely not) be avid followers of every tidbit of backroom Aerosoft, PMDG. Asobo etc. chatter, and maybe barely know an Avsim from a hole in the wall. And even within Avsim and similar sites, there'll be those that follow the latest minutia with less than their full and undivided attention. How many watch every last minute of the latest Jorge/Asobo presentation? And how many alternately, just skim the cliff notes, or look for synopsis' or simply listen for a bit then jump into the water and speculate away? Unless a video is aimed directly at the community writ large, many if not most vids will be created for a casual audience, which doesn't automatically mean that the presentation doesn't have a valid place. Yet at least to me over the years, it seems that we tend to reject input from "outsiders", and often the first comment on a video is a dismissive "Clickbait", after which the thread subject becomes the state of the world; devolving towards comments regarding short attention spans, the masses, Youtube algorithms and regurgitated information. I remember Obsidian ant, a Youtuber with millions of followers stopping by here to say hello, and almost immediately the conversation became about whether his voice was annoying or not, and..... Youtube algorithm's and internet attention spans. Not an isolated incident or reaction, here and elsewhere I usually just shake my head, but this morning, it was early, I was still half asleep, and... Eh, I commented.
