P3Dv6 may usher to Unreal Engine based P3Dv7

Unity Technologies makes Unity Engine. Epic Games makes Unreal Engine. The two engines are absolutely not related.

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought as much, but got confused (more confused) when @Skywolf added the links.

Maybe I just misunderstood what he was trying to tell me. But it's clear now. Thanks, @Sethos.

You realize that this is just some guy making a prediction and not based on any statement from LM, right? No one except LM knows what V7 will bring. Maybe we can hold off on the breathless speculation for a few months.

Ughh. So this writer for FSNews.eu has no particular link or relationship to Lockheed Martin, and is just speculating?

This is just as credible as a random person on Avsim speculating.  I would prefer to hear this straight from Lockheed Martin, or at least someone or some organization who has a proven close relationship with Lockheed Martin.

I would be very interested in a well done flight simulator using Unreal Engine, that also has very good quality streaming of satellite/photogrammetry data, and is below $100 USD, and is significantly better than MSFS 2024. If LM can make this, I would be on board and might even skip MSFS 2024. But I am doubting the credibility of this article and the writer that wrote it (unless I am missing something and this writer has a direct relationship with LM, or they work for LM).

A sim better than MSFS for less than $100. Is that all?

Oh, we are talking about P3D V7 already! That bodes well for the reception of V6.

Really! These forums are getting crazy with all this talk of v7. Come on people, slow down and take a deep breath.

I guess the expectation was that V6 would offer a lot more than it is, especially in the graphics department. Really it is more of a dot point release from what I have seen (A tick rather than a Tock). Naturally this leads to speculation that the next release will address this and other issues. Maybe V6 was designed just to keep us interested and invested in P3D, rather than all abandon ship to MSFS, whilst they continue the development with the Unreal engine (which will require all new addons).
At some point LMs big contract customers are going to have to modernise, it's just a question of when. In the meantime, there is a whole heap of eager beta testers here that are willing to assist with the upgrade testing process before it releases to the big commercial sector.

"Prepar3d v8 will be based on ChatGPT-MegaX. Beginning with v6, the SuperAI will study the way you fly, your preferences and quirks, and when v8 is ready it will build you a simulator to match your style perfectly, from scratch. Want to try something new? Just talk to the AI, and tell it what you want changed. Most changes can be made in real time. No more limitations based on other user's pesky needs!"

Oh you have not seen anything yet. Wait until Monday when V6 is released. LOL... all the xbox guys from brand x will shut down their machines and head over here to tell us just how stupid we really are. Those days alone are enough to keep you entertained for a week or so.

It's a sad time for our hobby. My first sim was FS98. During that period, there was also flight unlimited II, the Aerowinx 747-400, Fly  and a few other sims. Never did I see such infantile tribalism as we see now. There was plenty of freeware available at Avsim and Flightsim.com. There were freeware developers, like Eric W. Ernst (who is sadly no longer with us) who took the time to design, and program panels that, at the time, were advanced. He always helped on an install if things went sideways. I honestly don't recognize the hobby today.

Well, it seems P3Dv5.5 P3Dv6 didn't convince anybody...

So nobody's talking about the-other-sim 2024?

Jeez, V6 isn't even released yet... 🙄

Wow, where can I find more information ?
And do you know something about V9 ? Rumours say, it will run in the Matrix

🤣

Rest assured, come Monday, the forum will be flooded with posts about compatibility issues with aircraft and scenery.

I hope LM makes a new sim like MS did.  I need backward compatibility to go away.  Holding on to the past sucks for this long.  They can run 2 branches.  One for V6 and V7.  Time will tell.

This is the golden age of simulation.

Indeed, compatibility issues that will never be addressed because some of the developers of said addons have abandoned the platform so don't expect many addons that work in V5 to ever work in V6. So much for backwards compatibility. The same was true for the V4 to V5 transition. Plenty of addons  V4 compatible never saw the light of day in V5. It will be far worse this time around.
