I was fortunate to pick up a handful of great scenery/airports last month.

One of them, KJFK specifically recommended de-installing the base Osobo airport during install, so I did.  Most of the others don't mention de-installation of the base/original airport, so I've just installed on top with (so far) good results.

It was a little easier in FSX because the airports stuck out and didn't blend in as well as MSFS.

Thanks for your input!

I you download any payware scenery that has a default one already in the sim, then chances are you need to uninstall the Asobo one. If it's a mod on something like fs.to, then sometimes they add to or modify the base scenery.

Note that you may sometimes look for a default scenery to uninstall and will be shown the Deluxe or Premium Deluxe Upgrades. In that case, select the three lines options to the right and that will bring up the various elements for that package.

I have iniBuilds KJFK and I don't remember seeing it recommend de-installing the base Asobo JFK.   But maybe it did...and if so, maybe that is part of the reason why my performance is so bad at JFK, it's got 2 airports loaded.

I'll see if I can uninstall the asobo JFK tonight. -- thanks for the heads up

To clarify, if there is a "hand crafted" airport from Asobo or Microsoft and you wish to add a third-party version, then the "hand crafted" version will need to be found and deleted in the Content Manager.
"Hand crafted" versions are also add-ons and as ever, two add-ons in the same place will inevitably cause problems.

iniBuilds' comment, my highlight.

My question is: If you purchase an addon from the marketplace, such as a replacement Boston airport, etc. is the sim and the store smart enough to thereafter disregard the Asobo airport, or must you still hand delete defaults even after an in-sim purchase?

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

You need to uninstall the default one.

The sim is not smart enough, to know what the user wants. E.g. I had bought the FSDT LSZH addon but when a handcrafted default airport came with SU6, I choose to remove the FSDT version and keep the default airport, because imho it was the better addon. Therefore the user needs to be in control what is actually installed.

But boston is not a handcrafted airport.  So no need to remove it.  If ever in doubt just go to the content manager and search for the airport in question.  But the list of handcrafted ones is pretty small.

To add another question to this thread....

I have addon linker and have my community folder setup with links within the app.

I also have many Marketplace purchases that show in either the official or official\one store folders.  Can I also safely link those in addon linker, then turn them off/on at will as I do with stuff in the community folder?

For example, I have the FSDT Chicago O'Hare airport and drzewieckidesign-narita there...could I link them and turn them off in addonlinker?

Addons Linker supports that, yes.

From what I understand, you only need to uninstall airports that have been updated with World Updates and not the ones that comes with the vanilla game.

That's only if the airport is a basic default one. If it's a handcrafted one you are replacing, like LOWI, KLAX or KJFK, you absolutely should uninstall it via the in-sim Content Manager.

Here's the list of all the handcrafted airfields: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/guide-asobo-handcrafted-airports/409633

It's simple - if you can find the airport in the content manager, delete it. Base default airports do not appear in the content manager and cannot be uninstalled. Everything else is handcrafted and needs to be deleted to avoid issues.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Thanks Bert.  Did a lot of cleanup and got all my sceneries out of community and official folders...all working well. 🙂
