What Canadian airport should I do next?

Featured Replies

I grew up in Niagara Falls NY, directly across Porter road from KIAG Niagara Falls International (no relation to KBUF).

Even though it's not Canada, the site is a stones throw from the Niagara-on-the-Lake area and St. Catherines.  In the 60s and 70s, it served a major role for the war effort along with the expansive Bel Aerospace R&D facility.  For the past 50 years or so, it continues to serve budget airlines, while also being a charter hub for foreign and domestic airliners.  Its long runway was the only place within a few hundred miles (or more?) to land a 747-x at that time.  Imagine being a kid and seeing a 747 parked at the relatively small terminal with only a small chain link fence in between.

In short, this airport had a large, vibrant GA facility with everything from 152s flying sightseeing tours to Barons and C310s, which my dad chartered a few times.  The main facility serviced 707s, 747s ...and business jets carrying Alice Cooper, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin (Marilyn Monroe?) and others that loved to visit the Little Italy restaurants of Niagara Falls NY while performing at nearby Melody Fair or "The Aud".

On the military side, it had a large commissary, hangars and support buildings where the stars were an endless run of C-130s ferrying supplies.  SabreJet afterburners felt like an earthquake over a half mile away.

The mysterious home of skunkworks, the human jet pack and many other projects took place at the huge Bel Aerospace hangars and their expansive office campus with an over-road walkway to the secure parking lot.

So much history and so many memories.  It would be great if someone brought it to life.

Thanks for everything you do.  I really enjoy your passion and expertise.

Best Regards,

Mark

Hamilton CYHM would be great.

Is there a rendition of Winnipeg out there already?

Also, I have the existing Saskatoon/Diefenbaker but...a version by you would be oh-so-nice

And then there's yellowknife.  The version that is out there is ok.  Again ditto on the above though.

Windsor, and Gander and St. John's are neat spots too.  I have used Gander and St. John's to fly transatlantic non-stop to Shannon, in aircraft that really should make a fuel stop at Reykjavik  😆

It’s a military training base about 40 miles west of Winnipeg.
All types of approaches there.

How about something from the rock? Either Torbay or Gander perhaps?

It cost an incredible $3 million to build. "

For those looking for CYXX, have you tried this one?
https://flightsim.to/file/30091/cyxx-abbotsford-international-airport

For freeware, that looks pretty good, especially since the author made some custom buildings for it.  I may download it, since it's free.

However looking at the photos of that freeware Abbotsford airport, it seems to be missing some key custom buildings, like this photo?

I don't see a custom terminal building in that freeware project? Of course it's freeware, so it won't have the bells and whistles of a payware Abbotsford airport.  If there is a custom terminal building in that freeware project, maybe somebody can post the photo of it. If that freeware project is missing a custom terminal building though, then it's those types of details that I would want from a payware Abbotsford project.

A few I wouldn't mind seeing are CYXT (Terrace), CYXC (Cranbrook), CYZT Port Hardy.

It would be great to see the Canadian north start getting built up with pay-quality airports. Unfortunately most of the area is so badly done in the sim - even with photogrammetry off - that I just don't fly there. But I'd sure like to.

First place that came to my mind. Not just a ferrying point for GA but also for the RAF Red Arrows when crossing the Atlantic.

HDD:  Seagate 3TB (Data); Seagate 1TB (Programs), ASUS TUF Gaming VG32VQ1B Curved 31.5" monitor, 1440p, 38Mbs ethernet

Fulcrum One Yoke, Honeycomb Bravo throttle, Thrustmaster Airbus TCA sidestick & throttle, Logitech Pro pedals, Xbox wireless gamepad (1st gen)

Goose Bay CYYR for the trans-Atlantic ferry traffic. Or maybe Gander CYQX, for the same purpose.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

CYYR and CYQX would be interesting, but I am not sure how popular they will be; Windsor, Regina and Saskatoon my attract more buyers.
