This is strange that this topic has surfaced when I have just been playing around with the AA modes in the sim.  Ive a somewhat mid range pc by todays standards, i9 9900k @ 5.1 Ghz (HT off), 16Gb of DDR4 3400 ram and a 3080ti.

Running at 4k and theres times when I get stutters if I pan the camera using TrackIR.  Fully aware, and confirmed during tests, that DLSS - DLAA mode does certainly help.  I am always put off it though by the ghosting glass cockpit displays or even the MCP dials on the PMDG 737 but its a compromise I may have to live with until I upgrade my cpu and motherboard.  I installed the latest dlss dll file mentioned previously and had not heard of the SecondaryScaling 1.800000 tweak.  Tried 1.8 since I dont know what it does and it crippled the sim, went to below 10 fps haha.  Guessing its a form of render scaling.  Will have a play around.  Just wish there was a way of making TAA better, I had it on 75% render scale which is somewhat going against having a 4K display

Sir , that is not what i would call "mid range " however you need Frame generation , trust me its a total game changer in 4k for me with a 4080 ( expensive yes 😏) sell the 3090ti and get the beefiest 4xxx you can i promise you , no looking back with FG in 4k , i get 60+ fps at EGLL high/ a bit of ultra setting with justflight AI traffic, fs realistic , gsx pro etc in bad weather !

The cpu is 4 generations old and leaving me main thread limited so an upgrade of the GPU (3080ti not 3090) at present will not reap me much benefit.  The CPU, motherboard and memory are next on my upgrade rotation as last changed in 2019 compared to the gpu which was a year ago. a 4090, or whatever is better next year will then follow.  What cpu are you pairing with your 4080?

Not who you are quoting but I'm running a 13600k with a 4090 and I continue to say the 4090 is the best hardware upgrade I've ever made in my 25 years of simming. Having a sim that looks as good as MSFS, running in 4k with the fluidity of 100+ FPS and G-Sync is something I literally never thought I would see.

Instead of rolling back to TAA, users can try DLSS-DLAA as stated above and also add in an NCP DSR Factors resolution increase. I have a native 4k screen and yet use the 1.78x DL scaling DSR Factors resolution in MSFS to upscale to 5120x2880 and MSFS still shows it at 4k. The advantage is that the DL scaling is very efficient and results in practically no decrease in FPS for me, with a noticeable increase in sharpness.

It's the best of both worlds: good frames and good sharpness (to my eye better than TAA at the native 4k resolution anyway), with higher FPS than TAA and without the shimmering to TAA.

How does that work with VRAM though using DL scaling?

I've been following this thread with some interest because I've been wondering if I should try some of the very things being discussed here. I am still not sure just what I should actually do in regards to this "new" tech. I now have what amounts to an older system: i9900k, Nvidia 2080 Super 8gb (536.23), 32gb system ram, 24 in 1080p monitor, a 1 tb system SSD and a 3 tb data SSD. I run MSFS at 1920 x 1080 using Dx11 and TAA, with V sync on at 50%.. I'm generally very content with how the SIM runs and looks with settings I am comfortable with.

So why change? Well, just wondering if I can improve things a bit with the new software tech available. Based on what I have provided above, what should I change or experiment with, if anything? Thanks...

I have never taken note of it. I will have a look and compare.

Honestly, unless you're looking to upgrades parts of your system, and since your happy with it, I'd probably leave it alone.

Hi Ken (I assume),

I’m not sure if the options described here are actually available on your specific graphics card generation, but it doesn’t hurt to try out a few different settings. Just take note of your original settings so you can switch back.

Wrong. The 4 series graphic card will give you MUCH more value,  using FG than rather than a CPU or RAM upgrade will.

All known advice is that a system needs to be balanced. My performance is already limited by my older cpu. I appreciate frame generation will help but the cpu will still seriously limit the potential that a 4090 can give. Its already limiting the 3080ti. Its like sticking Formula 1 tyres onto an average family car. It's simply not worth spending £2000 on a 4090 at the moment. I always rotate my upgrades to reduce bottlenecks and the cpu needs done next

Ken, do try. It may work for you. I'm running a 2080Ti at 1440x3440 using the DLSS/DLAA settings being discussed here (in DX12).

My results jive with the OP's. I have good AA without the blurry instruments (where things move, like the speed tape) that I see using when using just "DLAA".
