Orbx Announces British Isles Mesh for MSFS

Featured Replies

I like the look of it, but I am reluctant to get my fingers burnt again.  I bought their New Zealand mesh, but have had to scrap it as it has become incompatible with lots of NZ add-ons.

I would like to see the Orbx position on this, but I am thinking people publish their scenery and airports based on the enhanced MSFS meshes, otherwise this could turn into an unholy train crash.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Likewise. However, Orbx has gotten its strategy wrong yet again.

This should have been released before the plethora of airport and airfield products for the UK and Ireland were released, so that consumers could ask scenery devs in advance to make their products compatible with the mesh. Retroactively, is just a pure time/£ cost.

Yeah, I too have had to uninstall their meshes (NZ, Iceland) due to World Updates and I fully expect to continue to encounter incompatibilities as the sim progresses. I will not be buying more meshes.

Himalayas is safe then 😄 I like that mesh, nice to fly in remote areas with it.

...and being in Asia, no chance MS will ever do a WU for it! 😆

This has quietly been released today.

I've just been for a run over my home area of the Peak District and it makes a pleasant difference, no morphing or popping seen yet.

I've not looked at any airfields yet so don't know if there are any issues there, that's something for tomorrow , I'm done flying for today.

Concur on this Orbx mesh business - while their NZ mesh is better than the enhanced Asobo default it is incompatible with other NZ addons - particularly Milford Sound.

It's OK, Milford Sound is nowhere near the British Isles.

I've just bought the UK Mesh tonight, as it's where I do 90% of my flying. I'll have limited time to check it out because in a couple of days I'm off on Cruise and holiday in the Caribbean for Christmas. I suppose it's something to look forward to after my holiday!

Just been for a low level run in the Vulcan from Prestwick up to Fort William and back down for a landing at Glasgow.

The mountains are definitely looking a lot more contoured and nobbled on their slopes. Again I didn't see any popping and noticed no performance change, and there was nothing out of the ordinary seen at GLA or PIK , pyreegue and uk2000 respectively.

£10 well spent I think

What is the difference in mesh resolution? In other words, what is the current value, and what is it after ORBx British Isles Mesh has been installed?

Orbx is  2 meter resolution in Ireland and 1 meter everywhere else I believe.

I don’t know what MSFS default is but I know the UK regional update improved the mesh greatly when that came out, but don’t know what to.

Wow, that is a massive improvement when compared to the 10/20 metre mesh they offered with the TrueEarth GB products in P3D

If there are not too many reports of incompatibilities with other UK airports or sceneries, I might give this a go, especially if there is no significant impact on performance.  I will keep an eye on this thread and see if any issues arise in the next week or two.

Some of the hills and mountains in the UK would definitely benefit from a higher resolution mesh.
