FPS will not exceed 40.0 - no matter what I do

Featured Replies

I run the sim at the very lowest settings and see a max frame rate (no frame generation) of 40.0 with the eight CPUs all below 60%, the GPU below 50% and frame times of 16ms, which yields about 60 FPS.

I then increase all my settings to HIGH and run the same flight and see a max frame rate of 40.0 with CPUs around 75% and GPU at 60% with frame times of 18ms.

The FPS never exceeds 40.0 based on RTSS, eVGA, DevMode.

I run several 4K GPU benchmarks and consistently see 65 to 70 FPS,  I even run them with the sim running but paused so I am pretty sure there is no active frame rate limiter.  Assetto Corsa runs at 120 FPS with all settings to maximum.

I have verified nVidia Control Panel (flightsim.exe) Max Frame rate is OFF as is Vsync.  RTSS shows no frame rate limitations and the sim options shows Synch is off.

The AORUS FO48U is set to 120Hz.

Where else can I look for what is limiting ONLY my MSFS frame rate to 40.0?

It shows v sync as 1. Means on, try set it to 0 save and try again.

Check your v-sync setting is NOT set to 1/3rd of monitor refresh in the settings.

Check NCP to make sure you haven't got your max frame rate set to 40

Edit:

Stupid me! I see you already checked that!🤪

dont be so concerned about frames, be more concerned about a smooth smooth flight performance, which I get and my graphic settings d are on Ultra and High, traffic settings and TLOD are the big frame killers

Bring TLOD down to 150, try that.

Could your Monitor cable be the limiting factor? Ha it the right specs to let the amount of data through?

TLOD 250 at 4K with a 3060 Ti... what's your CPU?

Try to switch the graphics back to the Ultra preset and take it from there. Default TLOD for Ultra is 200.

As already posted by others your MSFS Vsync is set to ON, 33% of screen refresh rate, evidenced by the VSync 1 in your UserCfg.opt (50% would be 2, 100% would be 3).

Set Vsync to OFF in the MSFS UI.

I never look at my frame rates.  So long as the experience is smooth with only a few stutters (my rig is 7 years old after all), I don't care about the frame rates.

Agreed to a certain extent, but I think in this case the OP is curious as to why it never goes above 40. I would be curious too.

I have an Nvidia 3060 12gGig GPU and an AMD Ryzen 7 [email protected]. Without the Frame Gen and DynamicLOD Mods I'm lucky to get 30FPS, this drops to the low 20's when at a large complex airport and this is on medium settings. With both the Frame Gen and DynamicLOD Mods running I'm getting 50/60FPS everywhere with Ultra settings.
