February 28, 20242 yr Author So I just tested F1 23 again. Double-checked all my settings. Both the 3080 and 4090 have exactly the same settings. The 3080 averages about 95 fps while the 4090 averages 139. But the visual difference between the two is really noticeable. I can see jaggies and slight shimmering with the 3080 while the 4090 has none of that. Same settings. Same monitor. Idk but I am not arguing with it. I am going to do a clean install of the nvidia drivers. Edited February 28, 20242 yr by RobJC 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

February 28, 20242 yr Do you use GeForce Experience at let it optimize the games for you? This might also be an explanation... Greetings, Chris AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024

I don't have to do any tweaks or anything. I'm not even using the variable TLOD mod (maybe I should?). I have instead spent that time flying and learning the A300, the Comanche, the Alouette III, etc. etc. and to me time is invaluable, and my sim time is valued beyond reckoning. February 29, 20242 yr Shouldn't be any image quality difference. It sounds like something wasn't right on your old setup. You talk of shimmering and a lack of sharpness on your 3080. That doesn't sound right. Wonder if you had some odd settings in nVidia control panel or something, or maybe even a faulty card. Edited February 29, 20242 yr by s0cks
February 29, 20242 yr From a hardware perspective. Improvements in the semiconductor manufacturing process and a reduction in heat generation have contributed to an increase in the signal-to-noise ratio, which may explain the reduction in output picture noise.
February 29, 20242 yr No tweaks required on my PC, and I am nowhere near a 4090! Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
February 29, 20242 yr Yeah definitely something else going on in the process. There's absolutely 0 perceivable difference in terms of image quality in an upgrade like that, if the settings are identical. I'm in the middle of absolute perfection in smooth, rate, clarity, in the easy to run AS CRJ7 OTW to KPHX out of KSBP, my old home town, San Luis Obispo. Someone did the airport, and that was the airport that first piqued my interest in this crazy obsession. At age 9 or so me and my pal in the neighborhood set up a sawhorse w/ a plywood panel on one side and painted on avionics: my first flight sim, out of wood! We would sit up against his garage wall, put our legs under the sawhorse, and commence to flying! I can only imagine what X3D brings to this sim. Right now, flying into KSFO yesterday in the FBW320n was nothing short of this same level of perfection, save a couple of modest hitches, for lack of a better word. So yes, with 9900K + 4090 now, I'm able to easily manage Render Scale of 130 or even higher, but 130 seems to be good enough. Taxiing around KSFO after sundown with planes flying in and out (modest FSLTL settings) and taxiing here and there, absolutely smooth as silk. At some point I will replace the CPU. Rob, how are temps on your 7850X3D? Air or AIO? I'm committed to Air, and I know Air is fine for 7800X3D. That was it. I did a clean install of nvidia drivers and now the image quality is about on par, minus the artifacts and some ghosting that I see on the 3080 with the FG hack. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro
February 29, 20242 yr Real FG obsoletes hacked FG or no FG. I am very happy with a cheap 4070. The bad mouthing of say 4060 is based on running most games, not MSFS. I have never seen MSFS on 4060 but surely that is a bargain gpu. But for a little more a 4070 runs low watts and nice fps with FG. I am thinking people here (not me) are waiting for series 5000 RTX release and hope that 4090 go on sale. With my 600 watt power supply, and old MB and RAM, a 4070 and 58003DX are the most I can run. And dirt cheap. I run two 1440p monitors side by side, 5185x1440 which is almost as many pixels as 4K. I never fps at 60-69. I always get at least 70 fps and sometimes 100_+. Both LOD's at 200 and DLSS Quality with FG on. Present render is Ultra everything. I think the OP should stay with his new system for 4 years or so. I'm staying with mine for at least 2 years.
