Seems to be working OK now. No longer stuck for minutes on the update screen.

And they say MSFS 2024 will put even more of the load away from your PC and onto their servers. Can't wait to see how that goes.

They currently have a MASSIVE user base relying 100% on their 2020 servers. The idea that any company other than "Fred In His Shed Inc." would take current servers offline to update rather than instal

I think Avsim and MSFS are sharing a server 🤣.

For me it seems it either goes through quickly or sticks there, like once whatever fails doesn't unstick itself...

Highly technical language there...

You know, there may be a reason as to why we've been experiencing server issues. MS/Asobo might be doing upgrades and getting them ready for MSFS20204 launch, just a thought.

Surely--they're undoubtedly testing all sorts of things one can only imagine the sudden demand coming in November and how to accommodate that and maintain 2020.

Had 2 issues today.

1. The "Checking for updates" hang... synchronising the date and time from the Windows 11 Settings -> Time & Language -> Date & Time -> Additional Settings -> Sync Now fixed it.

This solves it for me

Time & Date Sync fixed it for me as well - still seems a bit slow though

Just curious - have you tried the map enhancement mod?  You can select other servers besides Bing ( ie Google ) that may be beneficial in times like this.

I had been ambivalent about this tool (didn't feel it was that much better than the native mode) but when the native Bing servers threw an (acknowledged and confirmed by MS) wobbly yesterday I started it up, switched to the "new bing" mapsa nd got my sim back straight away. I had been getting 3 second pauses every 13 seconds but that just vanished and all was smooth again.

I shall keep the map replacement tool handy if only for such circumstances from now on

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

I use an automatic sync app every time I start windows. Because Windows sync never is reliable.

MSFS working fine here now. It wasn't until I did this: The new map app had messed up hosts. To edit hosts: type "notepad" in windows search and run notepad as an administrator. Remove every line not starting with #. Now no more hangups in MSFS!

Before I edited hosts, when I clicked on Fly it took minutes to load a flight instead of seconds.

If something is slow when not using the map enhancement, that means map enhancement has messed up your hosts file. MSFS is trying the servers in hosts, but hangs for a long time because the map enhancement app isn't running.

None of this workarounds work, it will connect when they fix the servers. I recommend posting in their forums and make some more noise there, they are surely frustrating lots of customers with this server based Simulator.

After using msfs yesterday, tried restarting today with no system changes and stuck on checking for updates.  Restarted and rebooted 4 times and still stuck.  What on earth is wrong with asobo, microsoft and this damned sim?

All this after 3 or 4 days of server problems and loads of time wasting too.

I also got this problem when I just tried launching the sim. Before that I have had problems with 'unable to sync data with cloud'. If you can't launch the sim it is very serious issue.

Same here...checking for updates...works after restart...and some disconnections while in flght as well

According to people who don't accept reality, there are no issues with MS/ASOBO! Some may claim "MSFS 2020 is the most stable sim I've used in about 3 decades," while others eagerly critique MSFS 2020, or Some just can't wait for any opportunity to bash MSFS 2020, which is quite amusing.
