Better to use GSX ground services or PMDG?

Featured Replies

For those who fly the PMDG 737/777. Is it better to use the ground services from GSX or PMDG? I'm not sure if PMDG has GSX integration like the Fenix does.

ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII ▪︎ Intel i9-10900K ▪︎ NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE ▪︎ 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ▪︎ Windows 10 Pro (21H1) ▪︎ Samsung 970 EVO Pro 1TB NVME SSD (OS Drive) ▪︎ Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SATA SSD ▪︎ Seagate 4TB SATA HDD ▪︎ Corsair RMx 850W PSU

Define "better"? Both are just visual representations. The GSX ground services are vastly superior IMO, be it in quality (local operator logos, colors etc.) or in quantity (different models).

The 737 has a GSX integretation (not from PMDG but from GSX), it will fuel the actual aircraft when you call the truck and board the actual passengers (= enter the payload in the FMC) when you click boarding.
The 777 not yet, but surely this will come soon.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I use a mixture although mostly GSX, especially Gsx for boarding as you get the animated passengers. Also, the vehicles drive to the plane rather than just appear so use GSX for fuelling and catering

I use the PMDG services as a backup, in case GSX fails (i.e., Couatl crashes).

I use PMDG, that Couatl nonsense is a huge turn off for me.  I had GSX on P3D and vowed never to use it again as all it did was crash my sim.  Just my opinion.

GSX if you have it.

Pushback is much more automated and will generally leave you in a good spot rather than you needing to specify distances etc.

I can't bother with that FSDT stuff anymore after FSX.
I remember Couatl just adding an extra layer of headache along with KIAH Houston terrain issues.

More than a decade has passed since that.

I don't user either one. I enjoy flying not watching trucks driving to the aircraft.

GSX would obviously prevail IF(!!!) someone develops proper macros, as it was done with FENIX (marvelous integration) and PMDG NGX. For now, you still have to manually enter both fuel and ZFW.

You saying I should give FSDT a try in MSFS?

I just say that things change (Sometimes for the better, sometimes for worse) and it may be useful to keep an open mind. caveat emptor of course.

On my case for example, the experience of using GSX has been waaay better than the days of fsx. No obscure couatl/python errors so far.

In my experience GSX is very stable now.  I was having some issues with coutl crashing / stopping but they were patched out several months ago.

I prefer GSX. Just make sure that for every airport you are using,  that you have a well defined GSX pushback profile. Not all airports will have them by default.  Otherwise GSX ends up pushing you into really weird spots, or completes the pushback halfway.  In this case you'll get massively p*ssd off with GSX, but to be fair, that is not GSX fault at all.

I may finally give it a try this weekend. Does FSDT’s own airports come with a good profile or do you have to get them on .to? Also ford it install itself in the community folder making an uninstall easy?
