Simworks or Carenado PC-12?

Featured Replies

What are the pros and cons between the two and which one are you using?

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

@bofhlusr I made 5 tutorial videos and 2 IFR videos with the Carenado PC-12 and found that it adheres closely to the real world POH. All avionic functions performed as they should. You may find Video

I only have the SWS version, but I personally think it's quite enjoyable. It certainly flies very differently than most other addons in MSFS (even high-quality addons like the Blackbird 310R). I assum

Definitely SWS! Much more real ground and flight model! However more hard to fly and requires some practice and its own HW profile in the MSFS setup.

A number vids on YT and instructions on SWS discord will help.

Its one of my most used aircraft in MSFS!

Totally agree! A fun aircraft that requires skill on approach and roll-out.

I'd side with SWS. Carenado is easier but less realistic

SWS!

btw, its getting a patch soon too!

I like the SWS in many ways, but the yawing is hopelessly unrealistic. Some folks seem to have this problem (like I do), some not. That in itself is alarming (and yes I have spent more time building and crafting controller profiles for this than flying the darned thing).

Carenado for hop in and quick flight. SWS for slow and careful startup and taxi to threshold, then quit the flight and go fly something else. 😆

SWS - fly like a plane, Carenado - fly like a car on the hard surface.

Wow, I'm not any closer to a decision between the two now. Will the patch address the yawing issue (or just maybe that's how it is in real life)? Any idea when they'll release the patch?

Have a look on SWS dsciord on development updates https://discord.gg/Ns7GkWW

I have both. The Carenado is everything you would expect; beautiful modelling, easy on frames, well equipped cockpit and hits the numbers fairly well.

The way the altitude select on autopilot works drives me up the wall😜.

In my opinion the SWS is actually superior in modelling, the cockpit texturing is beautiful. It does have a slightly unfinished feel to it so I’m looking forward to more patches.

The flight modelling of the SWS is vastly superior in my opinion. The Carenado go up, it goes down and it’s simply wooden in comparison. I know there’s been a lot of complaints about the SWS handling; I didn’t buy it on it’s original release because of these. I don’t have any problems with it. It’s simply more demanding on approach. I like that.
I bought mine from the Market Place and it was actually cheaper than the Carenado. The only problem I have is trying to work out how to get my the PMS GTN 750 into the SWS cockpit. Haven’t managed it yet..

I have both but feel the same way. I thought for sure it would be a big improvement over the Carenado. It's one of the few purchases that I really regret. Like you said, maybe it's me. But, I don't like it.

I own the SWS. Great plane if they ever fix it. Very slow to get patches out.

Certainly if they fix it that would be the one to get.

If your willing to wait, just keep an eye out for the next patches and see if people feel it is now flyable

Never use it. Worst buy I have done so far for addon planes.

and IMO having to change your whole setup just to get it going properly is not a solution.

MSFS 2024 -Too many airplanes to name. Too many airports to name.

SWS I have and fly.  Had the carenado in FSX back in the day. I Like the SWS just read through the legacy manual first before even trying to fly.   Pay attention to YD shut it off prior to landing at a few hundred ft and step on the ball 😉

I had the Carenado in P3DV4 and V5 and I loved it. In MSFS I only own the SWS and I like it even more. After the first patches the flight model feels very realistic, somewhat demanding but absolutely manageable. With the upcoming new patch it might well be my favorite single-engine aircraft in this sim.
