Hail is hard to simulate and predict.

Plus I imagine it would go against whole damaging the aircraft thing manufacturers don't want.

The main things we should take from this video, Jorg says weather radar tilt is possible now, actual storm turbulence and a bunch more important things than hail.

I believe in immersion, and the sim would not need to simulate the visual hail itself, instead just allow a realistic sound of the hail; no visible damage is fine, but affects from the hail (such as losing radar function due to hail damage or something else) or maybe cracked windshield at most? But I believe the sound and "failures" themselves would be more than enough to satisfy our simulation itch.

Hail is one of the most common dangers flying around thunderstorm areas that we should avoid - but we need to understand how dangerous it is and learn (he was right it is dangerous!)

Hail is also rarely reported by automated weather services.

This really didn't need it's own thread haha

Saw that too.... Would be nice to have.

It's MSFS 2024 on Avsim. Every single altered bit from MSFS 2020 needs it's own thread.

After the hail, perhaps asobo could give us floods.  That would be fun to try to predict and program 😀

It is an inherit part of a flight simmer to ‘always’ want more. 😄

Hail is important to simulate.

We have it in X-Plane, Aerowinx, Airlinetools A32x, and some authors simulate it's effects too in P3D addons...

It's, IMHO, at the same level of importance of CAT, Wave, Microburst... Should have been natively simulated IMO.

I could see not simulating hail because it would be difficult to predict and get right, but dont say its because it would be dangerous...  They need to prioritize weather, aside from aerodynamics, weather is the most important aspect of a flight simulator.  Im glad they are making improvements, but I wish they would highlight that more than the other gimmicks they spend so much time discussing.  We should have dangerous thunderstorms, fronts, microbursts, icing, and windshear turbulence associated with the jetstream.  The number one most routinely encountered cause of moderate to severe turbulence , aside from flying through a CB, is high altitude windshear cause by the jetstream, yet I have never heard a single person talk about this.

To be clear...I really don't think Seb was saying, "We don't simulate hail because that would be dangerous." This is the problem with spoken word; people make sort of off-the-cuff remarks, or commentate while they're brain is rolling through things (in this case running over what they do simulate like rain and snow). People then take that direct quote and assign some value of intent behind it when that's probably not what it meant.

I do think hail should be simulated, for what it's worth. I just think people are really weird about how they hear and perceive casual conversation; we all say little remarks/quotes all day long that are unimportant or mean basically nothing, but if they were clipped and put on public display would be taken very seriously in very weird directions.

No criticism of focusing on taking photos of Bambi in the woods... that's visionary. Ask for Improved atmospheric conditions? Get out of here with your whining.

A grumpy simmo (according to Jorg Neumann)

We are getting those in 2024.
