October 10, 20241 yr As much as I appreciate the better terrain and water rendering, in all the videos I am watching I can spot the old MSFS problems, such as stuttering*, black lines, terrain morphing, shadow flickering, etc... *Regarding the performance, didn't someone mention up to 5x faster than MSFS? So much for a totally new graphics engine. I also don't believe that these issues will be fixed in the future, considering that they are present since 2020. Having said that, I can't wait to put my hands on the new sim and I already preordered it. Hopefully we will have a totally new sim in 2028 after the new consoles are launched. In the meantime, let's enjoy what we have! 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber

October 10, 20241 yr Of course it's not a new engine, it's an iteration of what they've made and improved over the last 4 years, now going exclusively DirectX 12 (and not being held back by having to support and develop for DirectX 11 as well). But I have taught myself to see past them as I mostly fly the Fenix and PMDG offerings. If your flying preference is VFR, then I agree, it is a substantially more elevated annoyance. October 10, 20241 yr I sincerely hope that they have resolved the "land bars" issue, and also the sections of elevated mesh that do not render until I am almost on top of them. October 10, 20241 yr I must admit, although I am buying 2024, I am disappointed with all those old issues being present, including the old screen space issues with water reflections etc. New effects like Aurora do look good, but I hope they have also improved the blobby star field as well, as the night sky doesn't look good. It looked better in FSX with accurate point like star positions and colours if you swapped the 'stars.cfg', and even twinkling with Steve's DX fixer. Anyway, some aspects of 2024, as we know, will be vastly improved, but I really wish they had looked at some of the other issues from 2024. I am sure the majority of us will buy it. If we want to keep up with things, what else can we do? As for the 5x faster thing, I have not seen that. They said there could be some performance gain from multi-threading (WASM on it's own core I think was mentioned as one thing), and they talked about some processes being up to 100x faster, such as allocating memory, but I have not heard how this lifts performance overall. I also think some of the performance improvements have already been back-ported to 2020 anyway. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). October 10, 20241 yr TBH from what I have seen, I expect MSFS2024 to be excellent in many ways but it's not really a new simulator at all really, just a revamp of the old one with a few improvements here and there which will undoubtedly come with a whole host of bugs that will need to be resolved in its first few months. I'm not sure that the performance improvements we were promised will materialise either bearing in mind that Asobo say that they are achieving 30 fps in their testing. They definitely talked about a new lighting and atmospheric engine, which helped them get rid of the horizon line for example, but completely new graphics engine? No. If they did say it (and I don't think they did in that context), it obviously isn't true, as we can see a lot (if not most) of the old 2020 issues. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).
