My first impressions of MSFS2024

I think there really needs to be a 2020 forum and a seperate 2024 forum. This place is going to be insufferable for those of us who have a working 2020 sim and just want to browse without navigating 165 threads dedicated to 2024 issues. This is all going exactly as I expected.

If posters tag their posts with MS2024 there isn't an issue.

  • Not every poor decision is unchangeable. There are separate forums for every version of MSFS prior to 2020: the sudden dogmatism about 2024 is completely irrational.

  • You are going to extreme lengths to embarrass yourself with this utterly weird insecurity about your choice to stick to 2020 and not move to 2024 🤣.. I mean, that's great that you are sticking to 2020

Way to go. They have to upgrade their IT landscape x1000. Then go to msfs24 guys.

I flew a KLM A330 though in Msfs2024. Inibuilds did a great job on this base pack aircraft!!! I have to admit.

If i see at later time comments here whats goeing on on this way from MSFS2024 ( first updates and more ) it will be less months - but we will see what coming time offers..

But i wish all the best and fun for the MSFS2024 users !!

cheers 😊

That has already been requested, considered and denied.

There is a single forum for Prepar3D’s six versions and a single one for X-Plane.

The solution is to tag your posts.

Just had my first flight an hour ago.
Impression: not good ... textures missing, blurry (on the ground).
After take off the textures of the runway popped in, but the surrounding scenery itself still didn't load properly.

MSFS = 612k posts

X-Plane = 136k posts

P3D = 397k posts

It's time for a rethink on this stance as the MSFS forums will continue to grow much larger.

It’s not going to happen. Use the tag option. It’s not difficult.

The sim is now in majority cloud based. This means we are totally dependant on their servers.

This means we do not have our own base redundancy. This means server bogged down = bad sim experience.

This also means no guarantee of play time. This also means we paid for something that is not available on request and depleted our flightsim freedom to the level of a totalitarian state.

If its banished we are banished, if it's nuked we are nuked, if it's hacked we are hacked, if it's DDossed, we are too.

Bad times ahead, hence we need base install to play at own request.

first impressions was here we go again.

I finally gave up last night after having twice being unable to proceed pass the customize avatar bit. Instead I managed to resolve my Daughters SIMs 4 issue and retrieved some old game saves - so that was good.

This morning I logged into gamepass and launched the game again - here we go with the unpacking of packages again, I left it for two minutes and came back to find it back in GP. Launched again and I'm now in flying.

This whole experience is totally unacceptable and frankly shows a complete lack of care and thought to the community - poor show MS\Asobo

New PC Ryzen 9850X3D - 32gb ddr5 6000Mhz - MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk wifi - Gigabyte wind force gaming OC 5090 - 2TB Sabrent NVMe. Old PC - Ryzen 5900x - 32gb 3600Mhz RAM - Asus Strix X570-F Motherboard - ASUS TUF OC RTX 3090 - 1TB Sabrent NVMe. AOC AGON 32" 144Hz - Honeycomb Yoke - Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog. T Flight Rudder Pedals - Trackir.

I can see why you would want to reduce the folder size of MSFS, especially for consoles and low-end machines, but to not allow the option for people with high-end PC's or poor bandwidth to store content and reduce the load on cloud servers might prove to be a mistake.

I can finally get in, though the bulk of my content still isn't available  but when I try to start a Flight with what is there the camera is literally stuck in the ground.

The issues here look to run a lot deeper than just servers being overloaded with an initial rush of installs.

It was pretty much impossible to use FS2020 when MS was out of action, servers slow it was not great either. This is just an order of magnitude more dependant on bandwidth.

"FlightSim Freedom" is fine for me - although just avoiding the MS part of FlightSim right now. Hopefully they will get that sorted out, funnily enough I'm happily streaming Bing data though 😉

No need to be patronising, I was merely stating an opinion.

The servers being overloaded is on Microsoft; they should have anticipated that, I think most of us did, so why shouldn't they?

The other issues I am reading about are much more concerning. Since the servers haven't allowed me to see that for myself I have to rely on the comments and it doesn't seem to be good. Where is the optimism from people that flew the alpha gone too? has the sim degenerated?

Asobo should have ample experience by now with the 2020 release, and every SU upgrade afterwards to be able to prevent these huge bugs.

I’m flying the new sim and it looks and works great - simply cannot go back to 2020. Once the initial server issues were resolved last night (at least for me in Canada), I had a very enjoyable few hours checking it out, doing career mode and more.

default planes are super detailed now, the default avionics are amazing. Rain effects are brilliant. Lighting in the cockpit is ray traced.

and performance is vastly better than 2020! It looks and works much better and gives me a cool 80-100 fps (4K ultra. Frame gen on. )

Load times are much MUCH  better, making it much nicer to change flights - no more waiting for 5-7 minutes even on fast hardware

Give them a day or two to sort out any issues with the servers
