My first impressions of MSFS2024

Featured Replies

Any first impressions of the Premium Deluxe enhanced airports - EGLL, EDDF, EHAM, KDEN, KORD, KSFO ??  I have not purchased yet and trying to figure out if the upgrade cost from Standard to Premium is worth it.  As for added planes, I don't care, I only fly payware addons currently.

I think there really needs to be a 2020 forum and a seperate 2024 forum. This place is going to be insufferable for those of us who have a working 2020 sim and just want to browse without navigating 1

  • Not every poor decision is unchangeable. There are separate forums for every version of MSFS prior to 2020: the sudden dogmatism about 2024 is completely irrational.

  • You are going to extreme lengths to embarrass yourself with this utterly weird insecurity about your choice to stick to 2020 and not move to 2024 🤣.. I mean, that's great that you are sticking to 2020

With all due respect, I can't remember having ever read a post from you with a positive note 😉

With all due respect I simply doubt that you read all of my almost 4000 posts 😉 Besides that, yes, I tend to write only in forums if I am not happy with something, I see no need in praising the positive things in forums. But sometimes even I do 😉

My first impressions of FS2024 are not all that optimistic. After installation I tried to get to my first airport of departure, but then the simulator got stuck in a bird's eye view of the area of that airport. Apparently the server(s) were having difficulties. I waited a few hours and fired up FS2024 again and got stuck in 6& loading languages for over 15 minutes. I remember that it was said that loading FS2024 would be much faster than FS2020's loading. So far it isn't. Pardon my French, but so far I experience FS2024 as a royal PITA. Perhaps matters will improve very soon or I just will ask for a refund and enjoy my FS2020.

Kind regards,
Hans van WIjhe

I haven't bought FS2024 (yet).  But from reading the forums, I feel like they just tried to do too much.  Flight planners, cameras, etc.  Maybe they should have just stuck to getting the core part of the flight sim solid and awesome and let DEV take care of the extras.  Besides, only "hardcore" simmers need and want accurate weather, turbulence, flight planning.  Let the folks who just want to run around in a fighter or crash a Cessna into things have the basics.

Those folks don't need to use the features you mention.

That is called delusion. No way is it vastly better than 2020, it is 2020 why do people try to convince themselves otherwise? of course some areas will be better and more energy put into them, but just like 2020 there are vast areas which are not any different. Not worth the 70 quid upgrade and the UI looks awful.

Ok, then don’t buy it. You do realize that different people can like different things without being “delusional”.

since you hate it so much, why are you even wasting time talking about it?

as soon as my sim lets me fly I'll gladly let you know 😄

Surely all of this will work itself out over time, but those of us who have our feet on the ground knew this was coming.

And it is not a matter of being fortune tellers simply is to see the history of release and successive patches during the last years of 2020 where there are always problems and a rather questionable quality control by Asobo

I would like to know where the bible sellers are hiding today and their last day miracle patch I guess they were forgotten in the hotel of the grand canyon.

Cockpit goes blurred. I mean, MCP panels go blurred in the airbuses. What the heck.

Then to normal again! Eveything is literally streamed!!!

Asobo are well aware of the numbers.  This was some economic decision on server capacity expectations post launch or longer term.

I do not accept their apology.

100% this. You cannot tell me that MICROSOFT couldn’t anticipate and correctly prepare for the launch of this game. They have essentially infinite compute at their fingertips with Azure. “M$” returns!

This whole launch leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Things will improve as they did before, but this was clearly not ready for the masses. Many planes are absolutely riddled with bugs that even the shortest 2 minute flight would catch. Did anyone do QA for this thing? Anyone at all? Did they just ignore the QA dept?

If we put something like this out in front of our customers we would all be out of a job. Why does it keep being OK for video game companies to pull this *words not allowed*?

Yeah! Finally managed to actually fly!!! Wooooow! Took a load of restarts but I finally left space.

First impression of my actual flight... MSFS2024 IS A JOKE! At this moment, at least. Extremely low res ground textures, my cockpit didn't have most of its textures (not a single button had text on it and it was all low res), ATC (default, yeah, I know) couldn't even talk English (pronounced 'climb' as 'klimp'...), I could see my flight path in the air (those blue things) while I had it disabled and in the end MSFS2024 just froze...

At this moment the sim isn't playable AT ALL for me. As I said: it's a joke. It's so bad that I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

The Vision Jet also has fewer options than the 2020 payware version (perhaps the payware version will become available later on?).

I am done simming for now. I can't take this seriously. It really is TOO bad. I am glad for those lucky guys and gals who are able to enjoy MSFS2024 in some way but as it is now... are you kidding?!?

My first impression of this sim is it has a lot of potential but needs several months minimum to sort out. When people said the tech alpha was not representative of the final build, I don't think they realized how much worse the final build was going to be. But it loaded in 5 mins, which was not bad at all. Much of the content I had is in. KDEN looks good. It looked terrible last night but today it is streaming in fine. The planes look great. The AI planes look really good. Seeing some crazy behavior by them but that is to be expected, I guess. But overall a really bold launch with tons of potential that just got released a few months too soon, and desperately needed an open beta.

There are lots of issues, but overall, it's going to be a good sim - it just isn't yet. The "missions" are a disappointment. Obviously they're procedurally generated and they all have the exact same feel, distance, canned commentary. It gets old after 1 day (keeping in mind, I'm only up to level 12 or so and have unlocked just a few specialties. But First Flight, Flightseeing ... very boring. There's just no soul to it, no drama. The early missions are a grind to get enough money to get certifications necessary to open up other (presumeably more exciting) missions. The "career" system will be OK for those who like that aspect of it, I suppose.

The weekly Challenges should be fun. I found those worked VERY well and supply the drama missing in the rest of the sim.

Lots of typos in the text and it's obvious that the developers and beta testers have English as a second language. The canned sound of the characters just do not have the proper "flight cadence." You'll have to just hear it for yourselves. There is a certain cadence that pilots use when they're speaking to ATC and this misses it completely - largely due to the use of AI generated commentary. It's just not good at this point.

Certain missions are just not available and won't be regardless of your progress. They are waiting further development of the title. You're just not going to see the quality of missions we got in FSX, with real voice actors etc. It will feel very canned.

The SDK isn't ready for mission development, so the kinds of missions we created in FSX: Accelleration! probably aren't going to be available initially (if ever.) I'm sad about that part. Was looking forward to recreating some of the FSX missions I developed and re-releasing them.

Anyway, those are first thoughts. I won't be responding to comments or questions, as you might imagine if you know me.

Putting the launch aside, I think it will take a while to iron the sim out to where its spit and polished like 2020.  Performance wise so far its been excellent.  But I think we are going to run into alot of quality issues simply because of streaming.  At least give us the option to download what we want to store locally.  Already had messages, that the Ai traffic data server is having issues, and the other message came later saying that streaming data is also having issues and to expect degraded quality scenery and model textures. That just doesnt bode well.  Sure this is still the after effects of launch day, but servers will have a bad day and other times of the year and thats what we will face.

The control bindings are really messy, and not very intuitive.  Bind axis and go to another aircraft and it doesnt work.

Flying with these default GA's felt really nice in the air.  The FM clearly much improved as is the taxiing finally.  The jet aircraft had all kinds of issues, perhaps binding issues again. The trimming goes crazy.  The max 8 trimwheel went nuts and sent me into a nose dive which was meant to be a slight trim.

That being said, it looks beautiful when the streaming works, and there is a ton of potential.  I think it will improve faster than 2020s progression and we will all forget about launch day.  Look forward to it. Just expect alot of turbulence in the coming weeks and months.
