MSFS2024 Performance - your thoughts?

Featured Replies

Here very good fps everywhere, but when using the TBM I'm getting a slideshow. Very good performance with the Fenix A320.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

Pretty word not allowed happy.  Can't stop flying it since Day 2...

Ah, that's interesting. Haven't yet tried many other a/c.

Extremely good performance for me so far, I'll see how it goes when I start adding more 3rd party stuff in.

Pretty darn special flying into MK Studios LGA last night with a locked 60 FPS, in 2020, that scenery was a slide show for me.

I don't know how you do it, but my performance is bad. New York, I'm not even talking about it!

But even in airports far from big cities, I barely exceed 30 ...

For me, it's worse than 2020.

Set everything to high and PG OFF and Raytracing OFF otherwise, it's even worse! I9 13900K and 3080.

You're running out of VRAM. Make sure to disable Raytraced Shadows and set Texture Resolution to medium. Even then you'll struggle in places like New York and with the Fenix.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Is that with FG?

I find the performance perhaps a little more smoother than 2020, however I like to look around a lot, and if I'm flipping around cameras, it's noticeably choppier and laggier than 2020. However, if you're just looking out the cockpit window, it seems a little smoother, albeit with the odd stutter here and there. Just flew from MK studios LGA to FT yyz. The departure and arrival were quite smooth. However, the taxi into YYZ was quite choppy. Perhaps because FT hasn't officially supported YYZ as far as I know.

I have a system below the recommended spec. RTX 2060 Super, i7-9700 32GB RAM.

I have been tweaking and tinkering settings since FS2020 was released with this system (and even one level below this low-midrange) since, and I feel I have pretty much figured how to maximize the level of hardware I am at.

Below are my settings to get the most optimized performance with visual quality that is acceptable to me at 1920x1080. I use V-Sync  to cap the frame rate at 60 and shoot for at least 30fps everywhere I go.

These settings below (which are different than what I had in 2020) give me more than acceptable performance and I love the way it looks everywhere. It looks better than 2020 for me, and my performance compared to 2020 is better with this exact system.

The render scaling above 100% is there simply to activate the super-sampling Anti-aliasing. I can go down to 110 or 105 if needed, but 115 is the sweet spot for me as far as performance and looks at 1920x1080.

Plants can be changed to Medium if you want more of that, same with Grass. Cubemap reflections can be brought down to 128 as needed, it is a matter of visual preference. Traffic Airport can be reduced to medium as needed. Air Traffic can be increase to medium as needed. Road Traffic can be reduced to whatever you prefer, but it does not affect FPS much.

I just recieved my new 5600X3D and indeed it's a game changer... for MSFS2020. On 2024 I still have serious performance issues, and looks like I'm not the only one having them (thanks for your comments though!). Asobo has logged this bug on their forums so let's expect a fix at some point...

Using the exact same scenario: Fenix aircraft loaded up at default LFPG, using real WX:

- MSFS2024: 25FPS, lots of stutters, CPU Mem: 22GB/32GB, GPU Mem: 7GB/7GB 🤯

- MSFS2020: 50 FPS, no stutters, CPU Mem: 13GB/32GB, GPU Mem: 3.8GB/7GB

I can understand that MSFS2024 may need higher PC requirements and it will not run exactly like MSFS2020, but man, something's not right here.

That's two different things. Frame generation is independent of anti aliasing. I run FG with TAA

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I've spent the evening tweaking graphics settings in VR and have come to the conclusion that performance is worse in MSFS24, I've had to lower SteamVR SS and some of the other graphics options are lower than their MSFS2020 counterparts. Even turning Off the "new" options to MSFS24 doesn't really improve performance sufficiently enough, so whatever they did for Multi-Core improvements for the CPU they've seemingly not done anything for improving optimisation with the GPU.

In the VR groups I'm in it seems the general consensus is that performance is worse overall, but on the flip side visuals low to the ground are better so there's a compromise to be had, Clouds in particular seem to drain performance much more so than MSFS2020 clouds on my system, as ever YMMV.

Either way I've found a sweet spot that I'm happy with, ideally I need a better GPU!

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

Do you also have problems on the ground at third-party airports at night?

On all Drzewiecki Design airports I do not exceed 25 FPS...

These airports were barely optimized for 2020 and now you're using them in a new version of the sim coded to a different sdk standard and wondering why the performance is off.
