  • When it comes to GA and low level flying, 2024 for sure shows its potential (if the server issues will be sorted out) - maybe even more in pure nature than in urban regions. If you fly IFR / airl

  • If you're going to compare a mature 2020 with many addons (that are clearly installed in that OP video), then yeah, it's hard to see differences. Everyone has apparently forgotten how bug ridden

Instantly obvious that those trees are too big. Again. And I bet the MSFS2020 scenery is modded in this regard, so not a fair comparison.

Just flew in the Alps. A huge step forward the mountains.

2020 looks better. 2024 looks more like Jungle.

However. Runway marking and characteristics are far better in 2024.

You'd be stupid to suggest either looked bad, mainly because its essentially the same game, the question was always for me , do i want to be able to create a character and have my and held in doing missions. And i answered no to both of those.

I could always get the 'x plane' vs MSFS stuff, even though i found it pathetic, but to have this same rivalry with 2024 owners? We are part of the same 'tribe' same people made it.... its just desperate. I still load up FSX from time to time, I still use driving sims that are over 10 years old. Who cares?

2024 is much better... when you're on the ground, which is not the primary purpose of a flight simulator.
In the air, it's a different story, as if Asobo received a batch of trees on sale and placed them anywhere!
Apart from this blue filter which adds something interesting, I find 2020 more realistic.

Yes they’ve over done it with the trees. Also in my local rural area the AI is generating trees in inappropriate places, I bought a piece of software for 2020 called uk trees which sorted that out, hopefully it’ll work with 24, I’ll try later.

The runway environment definitely looks more visible from a distance in 24 which is good. In the older sims runways were seen from an un realistic distance, I felt 2020 went too far the other way and flying in VR you really needed to fly an instrument procedure to find the runway.

I feel underwhelmed after watching this.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

It's not a good place to compare though, there are some exceptional areas in 2024. I will make a screenshot thread in a minute, and I think people will be impressed by what they see. You just have to know where to fly.

I am still figuring out which areas have had the most improvements.

I have a strong suspicion that the creator of the video is not showing default MSFS 2020. There definitely is some kind of mod active to reduce the size of the trees and the number of trees in urban areas. Actually I think I know pretty sure.

Even worse, the more I look at it the more I suspect the creator of the video has the sims reversed; the whole feel, variety of trees and hue makes me think what he states is MSFS 2020 is actually 2024 and vice versa: 'MSFS 2024' looks way to blue and the huge number and size of trees in the urban area looks exactly like MSFS 2020 🤔

No matter what, I don't look at these kind of videos anymore. They're mostly clickbate with the intention to misinform (there are exceptions of course).

Texturewises 2024 look better but... I see quite a bit of stuttering in the 2024 version compared to the 2020.
That amount of stuttering is already a reason to close it and stop playing.

That's also why I suspect the video has the sims reversed. The flights I did in MSFS 2024 where smooth as butter.

Having spent half an hour taxiing before takeoff at Schiphol, I agree completely! 😉

I have to say though that I appreciate the ground improvements. MSFS 2024 has lured me back into helicopters, and part of the reason is that the improved ground detail makes it much easier to judge height and relative movement in the hover - the most critical phase of flight in a helicopter.

To be fair, not every screenshot has that much difference in texture resolution and quality in the GC area, but more than half of the ones I took. Also, there are all kinds of image abberations and problems in this area in FS 2020 and in FS 2024 maybe a couple weak areas, but hardly many. If I got the clouds exactly right in 2020 then it might be slightly more competetive, but the bad textures are still there no matter what. I didn't purposefully take the FS 2020 shots that low, it just came out that way.

The difference is night and day.

Also, when I fly around Cascade, Idaho or Glacier National Park, especially over rivers and lakes, the new trees and pines and even the lighting (especially in the morning) just blows away FS 2020.

Sure, you can blow out the lighting in the middle of the day with no clouds, but even if you do that, still looks better in 2024 at most angles.

That trailer was a con. You just cant replicate that look and feel. Tried everything on ultra, its just not up to snuff.

Feels good to have the money in my wallet!
