Nvidia will not get my money

Featured Replies

There are leaks coming out that the new Nvidia 50 series cards are going to be outrageously expensive.

Now I had planned to upgrade in 2025, but if true, I am going to put all those plans on ice and wait, watch and see what happens.

I may skip this whole generation.  Or will see what the competition brings to the table.  Patience will rule.  Nvidia will not be taking me for a ride.  They will not be getting my money.

The buck stops here.

You won't need it anyway as you aren't going to MSFS 2024.

I paid $3,000 for a 4090 earlier this year. I think that will do me for quite some time. (LOL @ Nividia marketing)

And here's me, hoping the new ones will drive down the 4090 prices! My 3090 isn't what it used to be especially in FS2024 so far.

Won't happen, as Nvidia seems to have stopped production: https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/processors/nvidia-has-reportedly-killed-production-of-all-rtx-40-gpus-apart-from-the-4050-and-4060-as-affordable-50-series-gpus-could-arrive-earlier-than-expected/

Back to the drawing board then - wondering whether to consider an AMD gfx card with my i7-14700k.  No expert so will need to research!!

my 3090 runs MSFS 2024 great , average 45 FPS with most settings maxed out.

If I use Lossless scaling I average 90 FPS .

I don't use frame Gen mod.

you can always buys a used 4090

5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW  and 2  22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU,  360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

My 3090 in MSFS24 sits almost always at 100% and although the sim suggested Ultra settings it can't cope with it - stutters etc. MSFS2020 runs better for me!

Are they safe to buy? I remember a while ago we were advised against used gpus.   I've considered a 4070ti super but it's hard to know how much better that would be (and less VRAM which scares me when I've been used to the bigger 3090).

There is more risk yes.  I've done it many times in the past and have had good luck.  In past years the biggest risk is that you could end up with GPU's that were ran hard doing crypto mining.  That's not as prevalent anymore.

One of the biggest and most pleasant surprises of the year for me was realising that I wouldn't have to upgrade my 3090 to get the best out of MSFS2024. Of course I'd swap it for a 4090 if someone offered me one for free but at 4K DLSS, my 3090 is still pretty magnificent.

The most powerful AMD card (the 7900 XTX) is worse than our 3090 with ray tracing.

Not an investment for the future definitely, considering that FS2024 already has RT cockpit shadows and in the future RT may be developed further (reflections, aircraft shadows, etc.)

I've not tried DLSS really - the PMDG gauges didn't like it - but I'm mostly flying fenix now. Perhaps I need to look again!
