MSFS 2024 - Sim Update 1 Beta Release

I didn't see this either at CYYZ and EDDF. Will check again later. But it looks good to me. Is there an airport where it always happens for you (default scenery, not third-party)? I can do a video for you if you have an area you really want to check out.

Try an approach in to Frankfurt. I did just now, and as I approached the runway, it was a stutter fest with objects popping in left right and centre.

  • I had to see for my own eyes!  TLOD is vastly improved.  Flying in the sim looks like flying for real again!  (Even though real simmers prefer their scenery to look like minecraft!) You can see p

  • Don’t normally bother with hassle of a beta but as the release version feels like a huge beta anyway I don’t suppose there’s much to lose.

SU1 has delivered massively.  Just look at the terrain resolution and texture sharpness here.

So sharp and nice!
Where is that ?

I have taken a video, let me post it somewhere.

Edit: Video was posted to my personal Google Drive, don’t want that public forever. I will upload it to Youtube after work is done.

You can see I loaded the Fenix, and then I used the drone to fly around really fast. You can certainly trigger LOD popping at some places, but when I am moving at taxi speed, it's really good. I feel like it's vastly improved.

Also, this is really high settings plus the Fenix plus a TON of traffic and you can see how smooth it is.

Still….

No fix for the solid bridges and overpasses!

You’ve got all this beautiful photorealistic 1:1 highly accurate satellite imagery and have to look at solid walled overpasses and bridges everywhere you go….

This is my biggest gripe right now and should have been fixed on release!

Will upload to YouTube as well, but posted the full file here to avoid compression. Using default Windows Gamebar recording, so it's not really high res, but it's not bad.

FYI the video shows more stuttering than the sim - guess it's because I'm recording at the same time. The sim is much smoother than the video.

Do you not see the LOD pop in, even right in front of the camera?  Vehicles, aircraft textures, stationary objects?  I find it strange that objects further away seem more stable sometimes.
I wonder what algorithm they are using when LOD acts this way.  Is is it just a lag in the server streaming causing it?

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Looks like around NZQN to me. Just went there in the non-beta version and it is pretty crisp anyway, one of the better areas.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

No I see it, but when I am at taxi speeds it’s a lot lot better than it was before. If you fly around with the drone at 200 then yes it is there.

When I am immersed in the plane and doing a usual flight and taxi etc it’s really much improved.

I see LOD pop in and also textures still loading from the server. Double whammy. I appreciate the video, thanks you for making it @JonathanC, but to my eyes, the LOD level is atrocious, even more so when on approach! I see planes literally loading in front of me...

Thanks, Andy 👍.
New Zealand is one of the most amazing country on earth IMO.

Yup I saw that one too and paused to watch. Anyway, to each his own, I’m really enjoying the updates and the LOD popping doesn’t bother me in a normal flight when I’m not looking for it.

And why do the ground textures still have the images of planes, cargo loaders etc still in the photorealistic textures?   Are those default airport textures?   Funny that video is the first time I noticed them so prominently in airport textures...

As said already, I also do appreciate the video.  I also don't know that drone mode is the same as actually taxiing in the aircraft.  The most beneficial would be to just taxi out and video the results but you don't have to prove anything to us, you are obviously enjoying and THAT is all that matters!!

By far the most compelling vids were @MrBitstFlyer though, even the road traffic in his Wellington video looked great, the roads were clearly defined and if I saw that image on my screen while on approach in a Heavy I would definitely feel immersed!

Have a Wonderful Day

“Working.” You can load the plane in and flip some switches, but that’s about it.

Someone on the ini discord said they took off and the autopilot worked.
