Yeah, it's a bit of a mystery. I guess the whole aircraft thing could be a bit difficult as things are apparently a bit different in how they work. Kinda evidenced by the number of my 2020 aircraft that don't work in 2024, and in a couple of cases completely kill the system.

I've also noticed a disturbing trend with scenery, in that there are a few things coming on claiming to be fresh for 2024 but which obviously contain more than a few 2020 holdover elements. And that's without talking about some of the pure rubbish getting put out by some of the usual suspects. F'rinstance - I bought an FSDG Greenland airport. I usually try and avoid FSDG as they tend to be overpriced and underdeveloped, but this was cheap and I thought might be worth a go. But they managed the fairly unique trick of laying their own very FSX-style ground textures in place over the new improved 2024 textures. So you get good high quality 2024 ground textures for the surroundings, but wherever there are FSDG building models they are sat on plain, untextured sheets of "snow", or to be more precise - white blank texture. I just bought an (expensive) "upgrade" for OERK that includes whole acres of palm trees that have obviously been modelled by the developer but that are significantly worse than the new trees in 2024. Presumably because they were developed for 2020.

So yep, not much showing up yet, and what has is not very good. And that includes some of the "premium" stuff.

My guess is not much will happen until and unless SU1 goes live and does everything it's supposed to.

On the other hand, I am saving a bundle, and I suspect that might well continue long term. The attractions of 2024 for me are such that I'm not really drawn to big airports anyway - little strips and even the native small scale countryside are much more attractive areas for me. Most of my trips are in things like the default DHC-2 or the GotFriends stuff and just involve exploring lots of green (or brown or blue or whatever) open areas and small strips, or even just putting down and taking off from fields and random sites. Never was a serious fan of big tubes anyway.

According to my spreadsheet I've bought over 1000 payware packages for 2020 (and I've probably got half as many again in freeware) but I doubt I'll ever get anywhere near that for 2024.

Although I'll be very happy to be proved wrong.

I've definitely invested a LOT of money in 2020 lol!  It wouldn't be a hobby if it were cheap right? HAHA

I guess from a dev standpoint 24 is too unstable...  (which imo is accurate).  When 2024 works, it's just amazing - I've had a lot of WOW moments.  But when it doesn't (freezes/crashes/quirky bugs with addons etc) it's makes me think: why bother?

And I'll tell ya, from the repaint scene... the download counts are VERY low, especially for GA addons in 2024.  I think Tim and I have the top downloads for some of the default stuff and I don't think any are above 500 except the Fedex C408 and some of the H225 helicopter stuff.  We're almost into March and the I feel like we went 25 steps back to go 10 steps forward.

Let's hope the opening of the Marketplace re-invigorates the addon scene, and SU1 finalizes with some stability/bug fixes!

JF Hawk and/or Avro Vulcan are fully 2024 compatible and are brilliant! The AH Nimrod/Fury looks good, but I don't have that.

As for utilities - I'm impressed by BeyondATC (not too expensive).

I am in no hurry to buy anything.... 2024 for me, is 2020 with better scenery and smoother performance.

The airplanes I like to fly, all work now:  RV14A, A36, Kodiak, Islander, TBM850, C414, King Air with G1000..

My favorite addon airports all work, freeware and payware..  The TDS GTN works nicely..

Mamu's Marinas and Powerlines work..  Addons Linker works..

For 2024, I bought Palm Springs airport, updated the GTN to the Pro version.. and not much else.. 🙂

Assuming you're only interested in GA right? 🙂 ... I definitely plan to jump on the ini A350 2024 version (on day 5+ maybe 😅, just to ensure there are no deal-breaker issues in the early goings).

I imagine there'll be a big gush of addons once 2024 gets settled.

Recalling 2020's early months and years, not much good was happening until....what? SU6?

Rubbing my hands and looking forward to the A350, Chaseplane, 747s and so on.

I have the Hawk, the new update is decent!  I also have BATC but it doesn't work well for me (corporate/GA flight)

We are similar, I do indeed have a lot of those.  Is the King air 350 blackhawk mod working in 2024 too?  I should try it

I also bought the PSP update - flying socal can be a real treat when the sim works 🙂

Me too! I think when 2024 marketplace open we will see influx of  add ons LOL

I really hope it takes off (har har) - not that I love the MP but a lot of devs are trying to get their stuff to users in 2024.

The 350 is a really cool aircraft, ini annoyed me at first with their FPS heavy sceneries but I think I will jump on the 350.  I'll likely fly it as a corporate venture lol.

It's true the first 6mo - 1 year were quite void of decent addons.  I think the first I bought was the Carenado Mooney (lol yeah we didn't have much).  I hoped 24 would be different, built on the foundations of the stable 2020.  Probably not so much hehe...

The thrifty part of me has resolved to live a simple, “all default” life.

Just the addons that came with my $200 MSFS 2024, all default XP12!

And only pay $50 museum admission, without equal cost exhibit upgrades, a takeout pizza without the $20 appetizer box, etc.

The thought being I can then 1) save money to retire early soon and 2) more importantly, not throw CPU hungry variables a my computer that cause pauses and stutters.

I REALLY hate stutters, and LOVE smooth, silky FPS even more than 20 year old me admired the lovely ladies at college (including the one I’m still married to who hears me #$&@ about stutters and shouts “just get a new computer!!!”)

But the add on urge is still there…as you can tell by my signature I love DC-9s and have fond memories of riding them.  Ugh…only $50, I’ll get it!  Except seems it’s not ready for 2024 prime time.

So, in the meantime, I’m exploring the new Pilatus jet and Saab 340 repaints and not spending on any add ons (but the urge is there!!!).

What about the Milviz C310R, aren't you using it in MSFS 2024?

But if you buy addons that demand a lot from your current system, maybe it will melt it, and you can buy a NEW PC just like your wife suggested!

Hee hee!

That same spouse flipped out when I replaced my failed AMD 6800 with a cheap Nvidia 3060 - “just buy a whole new PC!!!”

If only I’d listen to her…but instead will download some nice repaints from @ryanbatc for that new Pilatus jet and keep to my New Year’s resolution! 😂

I think a lot of people are flying their 2020 stuff in 2024, and they are flying the repaints they already had for now.  I have to say, I haven't touched MSFS2020 in two months now...nothing against it, it's just that I'm having so much fun with MSFS2024 and everything has just worked (except for the JF Tomahawk...)

As for repaints, for example the Carenado Seminole...I have your red stripe livery from a couple of years ago, and I won't need to download it again I don't think.  And the Flysimware Sierra, I am flying it in '24 but I haven't even tried to look for repaints on it yet, because I have so many other things going on (flying the Carenado/default R66 helicopter, trying out the Cockspur Citation Mustang in '24, flying the FSReborn M500 in '24, copying over the Top Rudder Solo 103 etc. etc.).   I haven't even gotten to the A2A Comanche either!

Oh man I wish we had a more detailed Mooney.  Maybe a TLS variant or something like that with Blacksquare-level systems.
