March 9, 20251 yr To me, I don't know anyone else personally who's into flight simming. So I kind of see these forums as a place to hang out with friends and just shoot the breeze about whatever might pop into my mind about, well just about anything to do with flight simming. Kind of like, you type something random you just happen to be thinking about, and by writing it, it helps you visualize it so you might get a clearer picture, and then you hope for some friendly neighborly feedback, so you might get an even clearer picture. But sometimes it seems a bit more like hanging out with the gang of hoodlums smoking in the alleyway behind the school instead of the “good kids” reading books, playing chess, or actually studying during their break. Nerds! “Hey guys, what do you think of my new waterproof Casio digital watch? It has like six different time zones.” “Ha! He's asking us what we think! Let's throw him in the fountain, see how waterproof his watch really is! What time is it in Australia dork? Wanna take a trip down under?” ...Well ok, that might be exaggerated, but kind of feels like it a bit sometimes. But anyway, I still haven't even come close to buying or even trying 2024 yet, so I can't really get enough of these types of threads. I guess waiting for more clear signals where it seems unequivocally hands down better than 2020. But whether it ever gets there or not doesn't matter, I still like reading about what other people think on here, coming from any side. I just finished a stint going back to FSX Steam, yet again, a bunch of flights in the PMDG 747-400. Dang, it is cool to fly that one for sure! It just “feels” awesome! Now I just switched back to 2020. It'll be really cool to see how the 747's develop in 2024. There's still something about that “feeling” for me in FSX vs. 2020, it bugs me in 2020 that I seem to be getting all these weird random yawing moments on final recently and generally all these weird seemingly random motions that just don't “feel” right, well to me at least. But the amazing scenery in 2020 always pulls me back. Which kid wouldn't go for better graphics, and that doesn't change as one gets older, so I guess just always got to compromise in some way or another. Anyway, looking forward to anyone's continuing random feedback as 2024 progresses.
June 8, 2025Jun 8 Well I was a late and admittedly sceptical adopter of 2024, got it in April and have given it about 6 weeks where I only played 2024. Yesterday I went back and tried 2020 again. My return to 2020 will be lasting. though 2024 has improvements in lighting and the graphics are better at 200' and below ...and the clouds are sometimes superior everywhere else its no improvement and in some areas a step back. Ground features above 500' in the UK where I fly a lot are superior in 2020. The flight model?, well I fly the same type of aircraft IRL as I do in the game and whilst recognising differences between 2020 and 2024 I would class neither as realistic beyond their attempted adherence to performance figures, despite the claims of CFD. and improved ground handling. This is all simply my opinion. Please dont reply with lists of what Jorg or other people who make and sell have stated with intention that these statements provide equal unequivocal facts Edited June 8, 2025Jun 8 by Rusty Spanner
June 8, 2025Jun 8 Admittedly I didn’t try 2024 for as long as you, I too have also reverted back to 2020. I’m not sure when I’ll try 2024 again. I suspect it will be when I’m forced to switch because developers (encouraged by MS) will release more must-have addons exclusively for 2024 (which is already starting to happen tbh).

June 8, 2025Jun 8 Yeah I'm back to 2020. It's simply the lack of performance on 2024 at low level for me. Stutters when turning, stutters when rotating, stutters when landing. I simply don't get this on 2020 with more demanding settings. It's not an emotional argument and I really dont care what other people use. I just want Asobo to support 2020 as long as possible and not force us all on to 2024, which for me isn't a great product. I've been really disappointed, but each to their own.
June 8, 2025Jun 8 2020 is here to stay for many years yet, it's certainly a nice thing to go back to an old title and see just how good & bad it was no matter what title it is. In this instance all the while Jorg and his merry men struggle with 2024 it makes 2020 a decent enough fallback option, if people choose to do just that then let them be that's their choice. If you need help improving FS2020 and you are an airliner enthusiast like me, especially the Fenix A319, please feel free to contact me. I share flights with FS2020 every day on the Screenshots forum. It is solid as a rock, smooth as silk. I have never loved FS2020 so much since I have been using FS2024 intensely since its release. For me FS2020 + Google Map Enhancement Pro + REX Atmos is the perfect combination for unlimited fun. I spend my time flying and nothing else bothers me. For me it makes sense. This is what a simulator should be.

I have followed MrBitstFlyer's post re his use of XP12 and it's easy to see how and why the draw to Xplane, especially if you're after as close an approximation of flight possible in a cheap desktop sim. I've tried the demos now for the last 3 versions and much like Bobsk8 ended up uninstalling quickly just for lack of use and nothing compelling from the first impression. As MSFS users understand, that did not happen when 2020 debuted, it was welcomed with deserved fanfare as a major advance in desktop flight simming. A RW Pilot on his Bitst's thread spoke loudly about wanting visibility to match RW conditions and that users have been spoiled by MSFS' lack of realistic visibility. I'll happily admit something here: if the RW is fugly from haze or smoke or smog, get rid of it. I don't want to experience that would much rather use poetic license possible only in the virtual world to make the experience better. What RW pilot would not drastically prefer to fly in a RW that had much better visibililty? Only weird RW pilots! I also greatly prefer shiny new aircraft w/o scratched windscreens, just like if the choice was a brand new automobile over a used one with scrapes and dings I'd always choose the new one. If MSFS 2020 nor 2024 did not feature what for me is now a basic feature of the highest end desktop flight sim, that being worldwide ortho scenery, I'd immediately jump into Xplane and learn all there is to use that venue well. I don't relate to 2024 as a 'scam'. Oddly conceived in some ways absolutely including the UI and controller setup interface, and the poor startup. And it wasn't like they didn't do massive work to develop that odd controller setup and everything else in 2024. Scams involve less work to get something out of you and a lot of work went into 2024 obviously. But honestly outside of that, it's working great here and is essentially identical to 2020 except for the improvements described w/ regard to lighting and cloud depiction. The proof for me is I almost always find myself launching 2024 over 2020, about 80% of the time. 2024 has worked identically with Self Loading Cargo, GSX (now deleted thankfully) and BATC. Fenix 320 works great as does AS' CRJ series in 2024. The remaining issues with 2024 to at least get it to a level of completion comparable to 2020 probably won't take much more time, but even so, it's doing everything I need it to do today. IOW, what if all of the shortcomings as you see them in 2024 were addressed an SU or two down the road in 2024? It's obvious 2024 needs additional work to get to 2020's level of maturity and seems like that is definitely happening and if that does not occur for some reason then sure keep 2020 alive. After that though, why keep developing 2020? I think the real goal for MS/A will be to get 2024 to that level of development such that there is no valid reason to not upgrade and I think that's highly likely and must be their ultimate agenda. There seem to be about a dozen of the same people on Avsim, who must just wait to get up in the morning and look to see if there is any way they can post about how 2020 is NG, and 2024 is the best thing ever. Same people, same comments. They simply dislike the fact that most users appear to remain with 2020.
