reverted back to MSFS 2020

Featured Replies

Do not forget that the streamed ground Tiles are higher in resolution ( 2x ) in MSFS 2024 than in MSFS 2020.

That makes a big difference in workload and DL streaming data

So with the same slider settings MSFS 2024 is heavier for your system and ground textures in MSFS 2024 might appear less sharp ( lower LOD ) if your system cannot DL / proces the data fast enough..

Try MSFS 2020 with the Map Enhancement Mod : High RES Latest Bing to see if your system can handle it. If it does it well than MSFS 2024 won’t be an issue ….

I go back to 2020 where Asobo were still keen on making a flight simulator.

As you well know, not according to the most fanatical Xplane users, neither version of MSFS qualifies.   I have followed MrBitstFlyer's post re his use of XP12 and it's easy to see how and why the draw to Xplane, especially if you're after as close an approximation of flight possible in a cheap desktop sim.  I've tried the demos now for the last 3 versions and much like Bobsk8 ended up uninstalling quickly just for lack of use and nothing compelling from the first impression.  As MSFS users understand, that did not happen when 2020 debuted, it was welcomed with deserved fanfare as a major advance in desktop flight simming.  A RW Pilot on his Bitst's thread spoke loudly about wanting visibility to match RW conditions and that users have been spoiled by MSFS' lack of realistic visibility.  I'll happily admit something here:  if the RW is fugly from haze or smoke or smog, get rid of it.  I don't want to experience that would much rather use poetic license possible only in the virtual world to make the experience better.  What RW pilot would not drastically prefer to fly in a RW that had much better visibililty?  Only weird RW pilots!   I also greatly prefer shiny new aircraft w/o scratched windscreens, just like if the choice was a brand new automobile over a used one with scrapes and dings I'd always choose the new one.  If MSFS 2020 nor 2024 did not feature what for me is now a basic feature of the highest end desktop flight sim, that being worldwide ortho scenery, I'd immediately jump into Xplane and learn all there is to use that venue well.

I don't relate to 2024 as a 'scam'.  Oddly conceived in some ways absolutely including the UI and controller setup interface, and the poor startup.  And it wasn't like they didn't do massive work to develop that odd controller setup and everything else in 2024.  Scams involve less work to get something out of you and a lot of work went into 2024 obviously.  But honestly outside of that, it's working great here and is essentially identical to 2020 except for the improvements described w/ regard to lighting and cloud depiction.  The proof for me is I almost always find myself launching 2024 over 2020, about 80% of the time.  2024 has worked identically with Self Loading Cargo, GSX (now deleted thankfully) and BATC.  Fenix 320 works great as does AS' CRJ series in 2024.  The remaining issues with 2024 to at least get it to a level of completion comparable to 2020 probably won't take much more time, but even so, it's doing everything I need it to do today.

If FS2024 had the intelligence to be a good simulator overall, I would have been the first to defend it and use it 50 hours a week, as I do with FS2020. You know how to add words one after the other, but when it comes to simulation, and especially with FS2024, you are seriously lacking in common sense. I have squeezed FS2024 like a lemon in all its uses, with all the betas since its release. FS2024 gives me no pleasure. FS2020 + FENIX A319 + Google Map Enhancement Pro + REX Atmos is my perfect combo. It is my recipe for a semblance of reality. Simulation on Switch is definitely not for me.

This is exactly what I thought for a very long time. For me FS2024 is a total scam. If you need help improving FS2020 and you are an airliner enthusiast like me, especially the Fenix A319, please feel free to contact me. I share flights with FS2020 every day on the Screenshots forum. It is solid as a rock, smooth as silk. I have never loved FS2020 so much since I have been using FS2024 intensely since its release. For me FS2020 + Google Map Enhancement Pro + REX Atmos is the perfect combination for unlimited fun. I spend my time flying and nothing else bothers me. For me it makes sense. This is what a simulator should be.

I get what you're saying, in its current state MSFS looks spectacular, even without all the addons you're throwing at it. I wouldn't call its successor a 'total scam' though... To me, even without any addons to improve the environment, it looks better...

There seem to be about a dozen of the same people on Avsim, who must just wait to get up in the morning and look to see if there is any way they can post about how 2020 is NG, and 2024 is the best thing ever.  Same people, same comments. They simply dislike the fact that most users appear to remain with 2020.

How many times have you browsed around here to post how MSFS is here to stay? Do you have any notion how 'same people, same comments' reflects on you? You're part of that other 'dozen of the same' people. lol. But who cares? This is a forum for all MSFS titles, so we have to deal with other people's opinions. Use the sim you like, be satisfied with it and accept others have a different opinion. You'll probably be a user of 2024 sooner than you like 😉

Cheers, Bert

Ending a post on that note directed to someone you know has strong views opposing that thought seems very much like a taunt.

Please resist the urge.

I'm adding additional modules, just like one might add Fenix, PMDG, or Ifly. It's the same approach. Your message makes no sense. You only fly with the hot air balloon with a colorful weather theme?

Huh? Try again to read what I said. I'm not in the '2024' camp. I'm not in 'your' camp either. I like both MSFS sims. I even like the 'other' sim very much. You seem to be the one sided one. Cheers.

This is just sheer nonsense.. I get it that you prefer 2020.. no one is twisting your arm to change, just be happy 🙂

Currently I'm using a vanilla 2024, no tubeliners added. That really is not my thing. I am a GA only kinda guy. No hot air balloons either. I like what I see in MSFS 2024. I like a it a lot. The sim is quite good in its current state, but is obviously can become a lot better. How does my message not make sense? Isn't it just my opinion as what you said is yours?

How come my message is also incomprehensible. You just added yourself to my message. I don't like FS2024 it's as simple as that. You play, I simulate and anything that exists to simulate more I take it.

Absolutely, and Bobsk8 will too!  It's only a matter of time before 2020 offers nothing over 2024 at which point you'd really be lacking "common sense" to stick with the old gray mare, as nice as she is.

Since we're sharing our dinner ideas and preferences: I haven't used a flight sim or completed a flight in one in a while.

I fired up 2024 a few days ago after updating several apps, beyonatc, gsx, navigraph etc just to have the 777 bounce around after loading the sim, crashing to desktop and me walking away. I guess I was added to SU beta 3 haha. Oh well. I will try again in a few weeks.

I really, really hope that is the case, because I do not want to be in the position of feeling like I have to make the switch when the replacement has flaws that I would find hard to accept.
