APL is not in active development, and is currently provided as-is.
APL was born as a passion project for Ovi, the developer, and please understand that this is a one-person side project. Right now Ovi is busy with real-life happenings, and is not around much. This means there is no active development and there are no plans to change anything about the app any time soon.

The Discord server is currently monitored by a team of community volunteer moderators (like myself), we did not make APL how it is, and we have no way of changing any of it, so all we can do is explain how it works.

This space is provided so you can log suggestions for some day in the future, if/when Ovi has time for APL again.

  • There's getting to be too many subscription-based addons and not just in flight sim but everywhere else. Enough is enough.

Thanks Bob! This explains why there have been zero updates for ages! Looks like its dead in the water...

Are there alternatives to this?

That's a shame, honestly my only gripe with APL right now is I want a range slider for generating schedules.

Yeah, there are problems with it that never seem to be fixed, affecting scores when the pilot does nothing wrong. I have well over a  thousand  flights, but once you fly it for awhile, getting a perfect score on every flight is pretty easy. I think I will just go back to flying my VA.

I finally gave up on it a few weeks ago, that and GSX, thankfully out of both of those now.  APL was useful but couldn't stand the route scheduler, the lame cruise pause penalty, the poor evaluation of landing quality vis a vis scoring and similar issues with other scoring components, and the fact if one is in a hurry and has to shut down the sim and forgets to shut down APL first the shut down hangs.  I valued it for a few years though and sorry Ovi has had to divert attention away from his project.  Right now Self Loading Cargo is doing what I need it to do for pushback so could lose GSX with its jerky animated frame-stealing zombie PAX, lame pushback routines where one is pushed haywire and suddenly spins 180 degrees, with its ground crew walking thru equipment and walls, etc.  I miss a few features of it for sure and I hope someone comes up with a diff approach some day as GSX has no other real competition that I know of.

The only problem I have with APL is that it has become quite boring, same schedules all the time don't matter how many times you finish your current schedule and regenerate them it always comes back with same 2 o 3 airports, so I've decided to stop using it and instead fly around the world.

Let me know if you need anything on Discord, always happy to help! I try to listen and implement feedback the best that I can. Keep in mind that I am a solo developer though 🙂

I've been curious about this one that's "in development" on JustFlight's website. Might be something to fill the APL void? Though who knows when it'll be out.

https://www.justflight.com/in-development/fly-the-line-short-haul-edition

Imo APL comes closer design-wise to my ideal of a line-oriented flying app. Sunwest was the closest I’ve seen to what I’d personally try to design, where it would build pairings and trips and run a very rudimentary monthly bid. Great concept, but not easy to do for more than one airline.

APL feels stale after a time. Once you can get accepted at every major airline there’s no mystery left

I gave up on APL months ago,now im enjoying my flight sim more than ever,no more being penalised for ridiculous things, well and truly binned for me,i will not be returning.

Newsky looks not too bad... a virtual airline scenario with flights and techniques that actually matter...

Vatsim might be worth another look - although sme of the ATC is less than desirable at times...

Will have a look also at iFLysimx
