March 28Mar 28 Is it true that only the Kodiak shows the passengers and stuff you are hauling around? I would want that. dd

March 28Mar 28 I have not decided yet. I fly mostly small single engine GA aircraft and am very happy with the Caravan. Also, not a fan of the g1000, prefer the GTN units for ease of use on a home simulator. My next premium aircraft will be one or both of the Lancair's in development whenever they become available. I love all the black square machines I own, but I can relate when people comment that they find the flight modelling to be a bit bland on BS aircraft. I quite fancy an amphibian for the Scottish highlands, I was disappointed to learn early today when googling it that Loch Lomond Seaplanes ceased trading last year, they used to fly a caravan. That could very well be true! 🤙 And is, at heart, why I said I still fly the Kodiak in X-Plane with the REP upgrade - really a great experience! I haven't had a chance to directly compare the XP REP version to this new FS24 version, I will try to get that done this weekend (mainly driven by my own curiosity). My main point is that yesterday was the very first time I truly enjoyed flying the SWS Kodiak, where it is one of my favorite flyers in XP. I can't vouch for how well either addon "hits the numbers" relative to the IRL bird, but man, are they both fun to fly! In re the comparison to the BS Caravan, all i can say is that the Turbine Duke is one of the most satisfying addons for me to fly. I can only say that it doesn't handle in quite as nuanced and fluid a manner as the Airfoil Labs King Air 350 (keeping in mind they're different airframes, but "close enough", I suppose...), but the thing I love about the BS Turbine Duke is that it "feels" solid and has a good sense of inertia/momentum. It's not "twitchy", and it's certainly not "on rails". Oh, my - what GREAT problems to have 😁👍 I'm really hoping @ATRguy can let us know how the BS measures up to his significant time in the Caravan. I can't remember - do we have anyone we know of on AvSim with IRL time in the Kodiak...? Anyhow, I'm glad I paid for the Kodiak - IMHO the upgrade price is worth it! The toughest question is for folks like you who are choosing between two full price purchases, esp when the BS is a few shekels more expensive! ETA: (and FWIW, I'm sure the folks at Loch Lomond Seaplanes would love it if their Caravans keep flying in MSFS). I never let stuff like that stop me from flying. 🙂 Edited March 28Mar 28 by UrgentSiesta

March 28Mar 28 Devs need your money to survive so just buy the planes you are interested in and have fun. IOW don't rely on others to have fun. 😄 dd Edited March 28Mar 28 by Sky_Pilot071
March 29Mar 29 Can anyone with the new 2024 Kodiak, comment on the final approach at low torque? Ryan would land the plane at 300 torque in the real world, but the 2020 Kodiak would drop out of the sky like a rock at less than about 700 torque. What's the new model like in this regard? The flight model remains mostly unchanged. I have the feeling it’s even more twitch, unstable and unpredictable unfortunately. Together will all the bugs this is having right now I think I will shelve this and buy the caravan which is such a shame as I really love the looks of the kodiak and I don’t mind the G1000. On an 80-ish kt stabilized approach with flaps 20, I’m seeing between 750 and 800 lbs Flaps 10 drops the torque quite a bit towards 600 lbs. if I switch over to the Thranda/REP in X-Plane, torque drops to 500-ish lbs at flaps 20. If 300lbs is the apprx IRL value, then SWS has too much drag on the flaps. I’d be interested to know what weights and flaps Ryan was operating at for 300lbs of torque on final. Right now, it seems like you’d need a flaps zero landing in a very low weight to get torque that low in sim. fwiw, the PoH calls for speed, not torque, and 80-85kts is easy to maintain. I can’t agree with your assessment at all I’ve been switching between the Hi Fi version in X-Plane and the SWS for several hours. There are notable differences in the flight models, but 100% the SWS handles in an extremely pleasant manner. It’s a joy to fly in the pattern and at all the various configs necessary there. Very easy to get stabilized on final, responds fluidly to power & controls, flares nicely and straightforward to finesse a really nice landing. Probably too much float in the flare, but that’s better than not enough, IMHO. All that and I haven’t even touched the curves or saturations yet. Maybe the Caravan flies better, but the Kodiak is a really nice handling addon. (and to be clear, I wasn’t a fan of the FM until this new version). Edited March 29Mar 29 by UrgentSiesta
March 29Mar 29 I love this plane and just about everything about it, including the G1000. Now I'm retired I'll try and find the time to understand Spadnext as I do have a bespoke throttle unit with more than enough rotaries and switches to operate it properly. Hopefully I'll be able to fit that into my retirement schedule somewhere between visiting every major European art gallery, re-wiring the house and learning to water ski🤪
